My DS went to Exeter Uni many moons ago. He joined the Rugby Club as sixth reserve, never went on the pitch, which is fortunate as he had never played the game. He was on the committee for the Cocktail Society and in his quiet moments wrote a few essays and reviewed a few films. The joys of university life.

The nice thing about the Scottish system is that you can secure a place at uni on the basis of your Highers results a whole year before you leave school, so sixth year is spent doing stuff you couldn't fit in before.

My son has just finished his A levels and is possibly off to Manchester Uni. I'm seriously concerned that he won't get the grades needed, so might take a year off and resit, which will be problematic as the exam specifications have changed.

It's a worrying time. I wish he could just relax and enjoy the long break, but he dislocated his knee last week, so can't do anything much for six weeks.

It can't be an FE College if he is awaiting his 'A' level results

Hope he gets a place where he wants to go ruby, be it University of Wales - very good - Cambridge or wherever

ruby since you post a lot about your son, we are only taking an interest.You say he is going to Cambridge so naturally we expect it to be one of the Colleges in Cambridge that make up the University there.Simple as that really.
If it is a FE College in Wales, that's fine, you just needed to say.

Usually when people start to talk about their children or grandchildren on GN it is because they think other people might be interested. Clearly not the case here so , note to self, next time must make sure not to read any posts on the subject.

Being polite to one's "elders" however that is a bit of a back handed compliment /issue on GN. The politeness to our elders policy in the guidelines? Me neither.

Gosh! Alea doesn't deserve this at all. It is you telling us about your son and it is very confusing if you say conflicting things and then refuse to clarify if someone asks you to explain.

Why are you so interested Alea in my son's life? It seems very strange to me. Yes, I post how I am feeling but his business is his business and unlike some people he doesn't do selfies, or sit on facebook or twitter, he has things to do. I suggest you do the same and stop obsessing over where my son is going to university.

Neither he nor I have to prove to anyone about his education or intelligence level. I have got my two children to university, a (now) single mother on benefits, whoop for the downtrodden amongst us! (Sarcasm). I was grammar school educated and can hold my own in a give situation. Also I was taught to have my manners so I will not be rude to my elders, you being older than I am, so please move on to someone else or only say polite things in future. If you have nothing nice to say . . .

Warwick uni is on the outskirts of Coventry. Coventry uni is in the city centre (it used to be the Lanchester Poly until 1987).
