I am in a huge dilemma I have had the kindle 8.0 HDX and have had nothing but trouble with it but even with all it's faults mainly charging issues I love it. Amazon are still selling them but have only one model and I am really tempted to buy it again. I bought one for my granddaughter and hers is not too bad. Amazon refunded me my money on mine by the way. I have been looking at other tablets and I have spent hours and hours and I can't make my mind up about any of them and that's why I am here. I am asking if anyone could help with recommendations I like the I pad and a Samsung I think it's the S 2 one . But when I was reading the reviews it said there's a lot of things you can't do with an IPad plus I am not sure how much you can trust these reviews. I am hoping that someone on here can help with suggestions. MARY

I have a Tesco hudl which I'm really pleased with. Very simple to use.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and have threatened to take a hammer to it quite often.

However, that could be either our internet connection or the GN site which takes ages to load each thread and ages to try and post anything.
(although GN seems fine on the PC)

I'm pretty sure the Apple staff won't push you to buy what you don't need Mary. I would give them a go. Good luck.

Mary you could also consider a Chromebook as yet another option if you'd rather stay with a laptop than a tablet

Mary594 Wed 14-Sept-16 21:46:43

Wow what's that about

jollyg Wed 14-Sept-16 19:07:29

Remember the truism jingl. Empty kettles make the most sound.

Will your posts be so full of your wisdom when your son goes way.

Sorry for my rethorical question.

On your own admission you know nothing.

Hope you get out of bed on the right side tomorrow.

Good dreams

Jinglebellsfrocks and wobblybits I have the top office and publisher I had to get them for my granddaughter I don't know the first thing about them. But I would like to be able to print from the iPad if I buy it.My printer a HP 8610 pro jinglybellsfrocks you make it sound like the Apple store staff are approachable and not pushing you to buy and I don't want the latest one what's the point if last years is just as good I am impressed with how popular Apple is and it seems none of you have had any issues with them.

Wobblybits Wed 14-Sept-16 15:47:08

I Use both an iPad, Windows laptop and Windows desktop. These all connect with my Canon A3 wireless photo printer. The iPad whilst it will print, does not allow the control over the printer that the Windows laptop does and in turn the directly connected Windows desktop gives the the most control and is what I use for critical photo printing.
The iPad is useful when we travel and OH uses it for email, browsing etc, but it would not replace my Windows laptop for most of my requirements.

You can link a printer. Depends on what printer you' have.

I have to confess I am getting this info from son who has been staying for a few days. I know nothing myself., except that my iPad mini is excellent. I can take it on hol in my handbag. It has a really good camera.

I think you should brave an Apple Store. They will see you right. But tell them you don't need the latest one, unless you want it.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 14-Sept-16 15:29:32

If you've got Office 365, that would work on iPad. If not, you can buy Office for it.

Mary594 Wed 14-Sept-16 15:24:45

Because of not being able to use the desktop for any period of time I have to do almost everything from the kindle so I would really need to link the printer and whatever else I need to link I am so grateful to all of you for your help I should have started with computers long ago all of you are so knowledgeable about it I am still scared I am going to break it if I press the wrong button.

That is interesting path but I don't write so many letters now- mainly emails or hand write things. Only official letters get the printed sort! The only thing I find is that because I have never bothered to link it to the printer - although it would link as it is an air-printer - I need to either book tickets or hotels on the iMac or print out the confirmation letter by accessing my mail on the Mac. Not much of an inconvenience really. This is why I am considering another laptop as I loved my other one and was so sad when it died. Will be investigation them in a couple of weeks.

The service is a really important part of it miep what kindle have you got I have to say I love mine when it works I only have a few more days to send it back. I have Microsoft office on my Dell would that work with iPad It looks like the iPad is the favourite so far .

Tizliz Wed 14-Sept-16 13:11:43

The probable reason for price differences is the memory size. There are so many iPads now. I have just bought an iPad mini (I used to have an iPad2) and am really pleased with it, it is so light.

Welshwife...I bought Microsoft Office with Word for my IMac and I can also use it on my Ipad.

Welshwife Wed 14-Sept-16 12:29:44

I have an iPad and we have an IMac as the computer - it is very handy as they both update to the same iCloud account so things can be accessed from either machine. Apple prices are similar wherever you get them - no special deals. If you go to an Apple shop you can get extras though - free - and also have one to one lessons at any time. The only thing I find I cannot do on the IPad is word processing.
I intend to look at the Apple laptops and hope they are not too expensive compared to the others!

Try Morgan Computers, they have cheap tablets
I have a Kindle Fire and love it (not from Morgan)

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 14-Sept-16 11:30:06

I will buy a Samsung when my Acer needs replacing (nothing wrong with it now). I wouldn't spend the extra money on an iPad. I was given one a few years ago when my brother was upgrading his, but I found I preferred using Android devices because of the flexibility.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 14-Sept-16 11:24:47

(I dropped it on concrete)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 14-Sept-16 11:16:54

You get good service from Apple too. When I dropped my iPad mini they replaced it with a new one much more cheaply than buying from scratch again.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 14-Sept-16 11:13:28

Out of date doesn't matter. Apple want people to buy another one I guess. That's why they put out new ones. I wouldn't go with the Samsung.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 14-Sept-16 11:10:47

I would still buy the older one. They are reliable anyway.

jollyg Wed 14-Sept-16 11:09:02

Apple prices are all the same no matter where you buy them in UK.

They have us all by the short and curlies, and BTW I have always used apple, but am not so stupid as to upgrade all the time.
