I took a History of Art exam in the 1960s . It was part of the Intermediate Examination in Arts and Craft and was equivalent to an A level. I was at art school and could not have done a similar exam if I had stayed at school and taken A levels. So perhaps A level history of Art came in sometime after the mid 60s,

I studied it when I was 17 and that would have been 1962 Stansgran

I would have liked to do that . It was certainly not around in the early 60s.

I don't know but I do know that David Cameron took it at Eton and did very well of course.

Does anyone know when the History of Art A-level course was first introduced in schools? Google and Wiki either don't know or are refusing to answer the question.
