Government push for retired/former teachers to return to school to plug gaps caused by covid.
I don't think I could cope as it's so long since I was in the classroom. Could/ would you do it?

Only if I had a particular interest in the area and a short term contract.

They’ve done nothing to make classrooms safer for children and teachers and I doubt if class sizes have gone down. So I can’t see my daughter returning to teaching in the near future.

There is already another thread on this.

But teachers who work passed retirement come to a point where they are not insured - any reinstatement would fall automatically to the already over stretched resources of the school. Is the Government going foot the bill for this extra cost?

The thread Teacher Shortage has a lot of responses about this.

Thanks for directing me to the other thread, I had somehow missed it.

I am not a teacher, but I imagine I would be prepared to take on supply work, working a couple of days a week for set periods of times during a crisis

But back to work, full time, doing anything, would be too tiring.

I would be happy to return to the classroom in Primary school. I am an ex teacher from secondary. However, I know only too well just how important it is to learn the very basics and this is done in primary. This government is setting up millions of children to fail in education by closing schools. Criminal!

It's such a long time since I taught but I would offer my services in school to do marking and paperwork and break duties to free up teachers more. I would want to help in these unprecedented times.

There’s a long thread on this OP
In summary - none of the retired teachers would return..stress/risk of covid/long long hours. All the other posters who lived with or were close to teachers couldn’t imagine why anyone would return.
That included all the young teachers who leave within 5 years because - stress/long hours/
