Anyone have lots of health problems from being born prem
(23 Posts)Surely nearly 48st to 12st is fantastic.
I'm not understanding how you went from 8st to 47st by being pregnant.
303kg is 47 st. 10 lbs
55kg is 8 st. 4 lbs.
My granddaughter was a 27 weeker 18 years ago. She is very slim and always has been, she cannot eat a lot because she has a small stomach. She is, however, very very brainy and I wonder if this is because she couldn’t breathe alone for 3 months and was on oxygen- maybe there are compensations ? When she was born it was very much touch and go whether she survived but out of the whole extended family she is the only one who hasn’t had Covid.
I think you are doing marvellously losing all that weight- it isn’t easy and you should give yourself a Pat on the back !
Well done for loosing weight , but as previous I really don't see why you would or even could gain that much weight in pregnancy! So you are blaming weight gain on pregnancy, or on being premature? Interesting!
Losing. Not loosing !!!!
Born at 23 weeks in a foreign hospital where they insisted on giving her a Caesarian even though she was fully dilated, to save the baby any trauma, my granddaughter has, at 27 and 3 children, hardly any weight gain.
After 4 babies I never had and weight gain.
BUT when I turned 40 my weight rose steadily from 8stone to 11 stone.
My daughter, too, started getting heavier once she turned 40. My granddaughter is dreading her 40th birthday then the weight gain which obviously runs in our family.
So what size did your Mother and Grandmother end up?
You have already lost weight so now know more about what type of food to keep away from. Good luck and best wishes to you But stop trying to find a reason for your getting so big. Concentrate instead on enjoying getting smaller. Worriers don’t get Brownie Points.
My grandmother /mother and now my 10 year older sister were/are between 11-13 stones in their 60’s ….I’m determined not to be ….. I eat four small meal per day…walk at least 3 miles ….and swim 3 km per week. But of course my biggest boon of all is that I never learnt to drive !! Yippee !! I weigh 9st12lb….but my aim is 9st 7lb ….cos I was that at my lowest ebb last year …and I liked the look and felt healthier.
When I was pregnant I didn’t need maternity clothes til 7 months.
Are you elderly Dolphin62? If not what are you doing here with your weight problems and your pregnancy?
It's not actually a closed forum for "the elderly" Nicolenet.
Dolphin's last pregnancy was 28 years ago, so must be getting on in years by now. As we get older, it's definitely harder to lose weight and may be better to be slightly overweight than underweight.
I'd say 303kg is a tad more than 'slightly overweight' but I don't understand the connection with prematurity. Perhaps the OP would explain a little more?

That weight gain and loss sounds impossible and what does it have to do with being a prem baby ?
Don’t really understand this post
At 48 stone you say you are halfway there so you were double that ??? Through pregnancy ???
maybe the 330 is a mistype for 130? unless it is an actual dolphin posting
We gain fat cells at certain times in our lives (or so I was told). If remember correctly, it was supposed to be at one stage, in the womb before birth (late pregnancy) then another around age 2 - and a third aged 12 to 13.
We keep our fat cells for life, whether large or small, and the more we have, the easier it is to gain weight. It makes it harder to lose weight too.
Luckily, although I overeat, I was a skinny child, thin adult and (despite having four children) a slim oldie. I'm naturally active, fidgety and restless as well. I can't take any credit for controlling my weight by careful eating - ever.
True fact - a male friend was 2lb when he was born in 1949, he played rugby for wales!! And he is as slim/ muscular as ever, only eats healthy grub, cycles for many miles, and enjoys his beer!
I was a prem baby but no health issues as a result. Are you eating high carbs and highly processed foods? If so, try eating all fresh, low carbs and not too much fruit as this is high in sugar. Good luck.
I don't know any premature babies who grew up with health problems due to it to be honest.
Plenty who have health problems and were full term....
There was a systematic review in 2020 about the health and quality of life of adults who were born pre-term.
It said:
There is no conclusive evidence that HRQoL differs between term‐born adults and those born VPT or with a VLBW. The comparability of studies was restricted by differences between HRQoL measurements, age ranges at assessment and definition of disability.
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/apa.15249
If you go to Google Scholar you will find lots of studies if you use a search term such as "preterm adults"
Some studies show differences - with (say) the transport of oxygen during exercise. I haven't read them. You would expect the lungs to be a potential risk area... I am not a medic.
There certainly are potential issues in later life for premature babies. The one I’m very aware of is ADHD, connected with underdeveloped pre-frontal cortex of the brain…lack of empathy and other emotional issues are the result
Perhaps the OP meant to say 303 lbs, which is about 21 stone, in which case she has lost a lot of weight but wants to to lose more.
She has done very well. That must have taken a lot of hard work Dolphin 👍
Dolphin sorry but you can not blame being a prem baby on your obesity. You choose what you eat, you put the weight on yourself do not blame that on anything other than yourself.
And before anyone jumps on me I do know what I am talking about . For decades I was obese at over 19st. But since 2017 through counting calories and weighting and measuring what I eat and drink lost 7 st 2 years ago . Still kept it off but been struggling to lost the last stone these last 2 years but one day I will get there. Was size 32 now a 16. And no the skin does tightened up . I have a wrinkly and flabby body but I over eat for decades so never expected to flatten out. But my sit fit classes has helped bits of me.
Lisa Riley is the only one admitting to removal of excess skin and all the scarring and infections she had . Others like Rebel Wilson pretend her body magically tightened up with exercise. She was obese for to long for that to happen.
We choose what we eat so don't blame other factors for becoming fat. I never did. But I am a realist.
