"My Kid Had to Unlearn Everything America Taught Her About School"

Years ago I read that UK degrees were valuable in the USA because UK students were taught how to learn while US students were taught what they needed to pass.

DAR I've watched quite a few of The Hickson Diaries videos on YouTube and found them interesting. Her husband is British and they have a teenage daughter who wasn't happy about being uprooted at first but now wouldn't want to go back to the USA.

I have seen a few of them. Many others who have made their homes in Europe look back at American shocked by the differences. This attitude to the different directions for education is one I haven't heard before.

The person on the video has moved from America to England and sees the differences very strongly. I wonder if anyone has read anything on education for the post industrial era. I will look.

Have you looked at the PISA data DAR.

"Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Canada were among a handful of countries that scored better than average on all four tests.

In the U.S., reading scores fell, but math and science results were essentially flat between 2022 and 2025. Seventy-four percent of American 15-year-olds reached basic proficiency in reading, compared to 69% among 38 relatively affluent countries that are part of the OECD. In math, U.S. proficiency was 65%, the same as the OECD average.

I started a thread on how well the UK and especially England are doing, but it didn't get a lot of response!
