Domestic Violence from kids to parents

I am copying and pasting a post I just found on our local Facebook page for police. This is what the man wrote:

"Why aren't we highlighting mother's of domestic abuse at the hands of their sons?.
These mothers of lads need support after failing to set boundaries early on got irretrievably out of hand as I imagine the mums end up victims of domestic abuse from little back chatting tyrants who hold the mum to ransom, so she gives in for an easy life, and he learns that being abusive gets him rewarded.
You should never reward bad behaviour.
It's like the kid that screams and screams til the parent gives in and gets them a packet of sweets.
I do believe we have parents who've given up after being ground down to nothing over time.
It's a thing that goes on under the radar."

I was really surprised this was written by a man and also really surprised that this is being openly discussed. I think it's a good thing to be open about it and remove the shame factor so people can get help. I hope it helps someone here , that's why I posted it.

As I said, I like the term a##hole. It's all inclusive.

It certainly is.

Chewbacca -- I never said I use or condone the use of the term(s). Some people do use them and that's called freedom of speech. As I said, I like the term a##hole. It's all inclusive.

It would be a mistake, on anyones part, to define Karen as anything other than a set of offensive behaviors that depict white privilege-

Galaxy

The male equivalent is not used in this country but karen is currently being used to threaten women in all sorts of violent ways all over the internet. It's possible to not be racist and misogynist at the same time.

Can you provide evidence?

It may be very different in the states I have no idea but in this country it is used against women on any subject under the sun, mostly not do with discussions on race, language sometimes takes on a trajectory of it's own, so it is now often accompanied by shut up bitch. There was a brilliant article about it which discussed both sides, I wish I could remember, something about the position of white women and how sometimes they are the oppressor and sometimes the oppressed and that's why the karen discussion is so difficult.

karen is currently being used to threaten women in all sorts of violent ways all over the internet. I didn't know that Galaxy. Not at all suitable then on a thread that's discussing parents being on the receiving end of domestic violence from their own children, especially as the majority will be mothers.

It isnt Misogynistic- Its white privlege- Karen/Ken- Doesnt matter-

The term "black betty" has withstood the test of time- Yet Karen is deemed a pejorative because Karen is depicted as white-

Hummmm ..

Oh dear ...I have no idea about the "Call the manager" labelling either!!! But suspect its the same principle as what I said upthread!

HolyHannah Wed 14-Oct-20 21:51:45

Galaxy -- I agree.

Galaxy Wed 14-Oct-20 21:33:51

Well yes if something is targeted at a particular sex I worry about it in the same way I would worry if something was targeted at a particular race religion etc.

HolyHannah Wed 14-Oct-20 21:27:56

Galaxy -- It's interesting how things vary by region that way. For me, an a##hole is an a##hole is an a##hole. I don't waste time worrying about gender in that regard but it should be noted some do.

Galaxy Wed 14-Oct-20 21:14:28

There has been some really good articles analysing the misogyny of the whole karen thing, I think Janice Turner did one recently. The Carl thing is hardly ever used particularly over here. Its linked to some really unpleasant online behaviour.

HolyHannah Wed 14-Oct-20 21:06:45

Starblaze -- I was suggesting that "Karen" isn't a misogynistic in the sense that, at least over here, it's really down to gender which word is used. I like the old words too but people get upset when I use them. LOL

Starblaze Wed 14-Oct-20 21:02:08

Not for me that whole thing, wouldn't use them myself... Think the old names for rubbish people work well enough

HolyHannah Wed 14-Oct-20 20:47:23

Galaxy -- There's a male equivalent... It's called a 'Carl'. And the terms are used by some to describe people of "certain behaviors". And really it's more polite in my mind to use names like that then what most people want to label the, "Call the manager!" types.

Galaxy Wed 14-Oct-20 20:38:52

It's just so boring, people who think they are fighting one prejudice whilst mired in another.

HolyHannah Wed 14-Oct-20 20:37:25

rosecarmel -- Good one. LOL

Madgran77 Wed 14-Oct-20 20:21:02

rosecarmel sorry lost me on that one confused

rosecarmel Wed 14-Oct-20 20:16:05

Call the manager!!! ?

Madgran77 Wed 14-Oct-20 20:10:52

I am always puzzled by why it is apparently "ok" to label a supposed amorphous mass of people in one context but not ok in another context! Personally I think labelling any particular group in a generalised derogatory way is not appropriate in any context. I expect some would say I have a "sense of humour outage" ( another daft phrase I saw for the first time recently!) but I just can't see the "Karen" stuff, the latest version of derogatory labelling, as even vaguely amusing!

And yes ...no wonder the OP has chosen to disappear!

Chewbacca Wed 14-Oct-20 19:52:10

grin

Callistemon Wed 14-Oct-20 19:48:31

Oh dear, I just realised which thread this is.
(Yes, I know, slow on the uptake).

Poor OP, no wonder she disappeared.

Chewbacca Wed 14-Oct-20 19:46:32

If the level of debate has sunk to I can imagine Karens neglecting/abusing their parents, it's sink too low for me to take seriously any more.
