Estrangement

The next thread for friendship, advice and support if estrangement has affected your life

When I started the last thread, which at the time of posting here only has another 20 posts to go before reaching the maximum 1000, I struggled to find something different for the OP.

The other day I came across this quote from Emie Zola.

"We are like books. Most people only see our cover, the majority read only the introduction, many people believe our critics. Few will know our content."

It struck me how pertinent this is to us as EP's. We are at times judged by our cover, the fact that we are estranged. On occasion regardless of how much we talk about our situation, little attention is given to the detail resulting in inaccurate assumptions being made.

Some of us have experienced our critics, our EAC, being believed by others who are/were close to us and we have those who criticise us here too.

Those of us who found this thread however long ago or just recently, have found a place where our content can be known, to those who care to listen and understand. Perhaps that can also be the case for those who read but never post here, sometimes making contact through private messages or never reaching out all.

If their experience is the same as someone who is sharing, then through our words, their content can be known too.

So it's over to you, to get posting.

I am disabled and have been fighting for my disability for way over 20 years. I have even went to two doctors and they told me I could not ever work full or part time job. Now I love with my Daughter n law and struggle just to come up with 50 dollars every month just for my rent.I constantly worry that if one day I can't ever come up with the rent money then I will homeless and disabled and probably die this time because I have way to many health problems to be able to survive this time around.

From you talking about dollars, I’d imagine you’re in America (?).

I don’t think many on here will understand their welfare system - are there any advice centres locally?

Are there unemployment benefits?

Your DIL isn’t charging you very much, and it would be best if you could organise your finances.

If your son lives with you, perhaps he could help?

My camilla is pink Yogin, but it hasn't flowered this year, a few new leaves, might need a repot, yours is gorgeous.

Whiff that post box looks lovely, some people here started doing similar in lockdown and it bought a lot of smiles. People can be so kind.
Hope you are feeling on the mend Yoga.
Smileless lovely time of year to be in your second home, the daffodils are out and everything greening up, cold here so heating is on but it's beautiful when the sun comes out.
A lot of the people on their own go to their families at Easter so it's very quiet, I don't get invited now to my sons, did in the past but now their children are adults it all changed and they won't accept any invitation here either so I keep busy Ive done bedding plants to put out in but I think it's too wet so hanging on, if I really needed help they would be here.
I've already eaten my Easter egg, after about 6 weeks without chocolate but I think I've lost the taste for it now, won't be getting any more.
DL enjoy being spoilt tomorrow.

That's lovely Yogin, sorry you're still feeling unwell but flu does take some getting over. Mr. S. gave the grass another cut and the site manager's back from his holiday so it's over to him now.

Very cloudy here this morning but there was lovely sunshine when we woke up. Popping out to get some shopping, haven't decided when we're going home but I think it will be Monday, but I'd be more than happy to stay if it weren't for singing lessons and choir.

Might get us an Easter egg to share, I love the chocolate it's probably just me but it tastes a bit different when it's in egg form. Will get some hot cross buns for lunch.

Yoginimeisje Fri 29-Mar-24 09:52:24

That was in February!

Yoginimeisje Fri 29-Mar-24 09:50:55

Here is a picture of my Camillia.

Yoginimeisje Fri 29-Mar-24 09:49:24

Thank you all for your good wishes re my flu, feeling just as bad today, lots of Lemsip and throat lozenges. My DD & GC are coming to dinner in the afternoon and we are having an Easter egg hunt. My son will have a nice surprise as he will be getting the egg I bought him last year as it's still sitting on top of the cupboard, along with one from his sister. So, when the GC are doing their hunt, I'll point up to Uncle's and they can re-give grin

Whiff that postbox crocheted is lovely, we have some here too and at Xmas. Yes, hard to look at pictures of our lost GC, I could never look until recently and now I hate to say but I don't recognize my darling little GD or GS anymore.

DL shame Easter is a sad time of year for you, me too as my mum died on Easter Sunday.

How you getting on with your gardening Smiles? I've cut my lawn and done some tidying up. My Camillia has already bloomed and has so many more blooms to come.

Whiff Fri 29-Mar-24 08:50:01

Bridie it was crocheted. No idea who does them. But who ever it is very talented. I have been here getting towards 5 years and every one she does is different.

Bridie22 Fri 29-Mar-24 06:57:13

Lovely pics Whiff and very clever knitters. I hope you are ok, these emotions overwhelm us by surprise sometimes.
Enjoy your Sunday lunch with your family and take care of yourself.🌻

Smileless2012 Thu 28-Mar-24 20:02:49

Oh that's lovely Whiff, really lovely.

Whiff Thu 28-Mar-24 19:31:28

Thank you all . Hope this makes you all smile it's on a post box near my bungalow.

DiamondLily Thu 28-Mar-24 15:35:22

Afternoon everyone. It’s raining here again 🙄

Yogin - sorry you’ve got flu, it’s just miserable.💐

I’m not doing much at Easter, it’s never been something I’ve celebrated much anyway, although I do put my Easter wreath up on the front door.🙂

It’s difficult, as DH was admitted to hospital last Easter Sunday, although a different date. He never returned.

But, I am going to DD and SIL for lunch on Sunday. I normally do that anyway. The GCs are home from Uni, so be lovely to see them.🙂

Sorry Whiff, that you’re struggling a bit - when photos pop up on my memory things on the phone and IPad, they often upset me. It’s hard looking back on happy times 💐 x

Smileless2012 Thu 28-Mar-24 10:52:18

oops posted too soon.

It is heart breaking Whiff to think of all that we've been denied and our GC have been denied tooflowers x

Smileless2012 Thu 28-Mar-24 10:50:34

Oh poor you Yogin get plenty of rest and get well soon flowers x

Whiff Thu 28-Mar-24 08:37:45

Yogin sorry you have flu. Take good care of yourself.

Just when I thought I was coping my phone just popped up a photo of my oldest grandson taken 4 years ago. After the lovely time of had with my daughters 2 boys yesterday. The older one was in a production of the lion king which my daughter asked me if I wanted to see it was lovely and then we went to his brother's Easter hat parade at nursery where they sang 4 songs.

Its like a stab to my heart and knowing how much I have missed him and his brothers growing up. Good job I have craft group this afternoon. 😥

Yoginimeisje Thu 28-Mar-24 08:04:21

I've got the flu sad

DiamondLily Wed 27-Mar-24 15:46:28

Our gardeners have done the first grass cut of the year, but it’s leapt up again since then. I suppose because it’s mild overall.

I’ve got a few pots, but we still get a few night frosts, so I’m leaving the bedding plants for a while.

Smileless2012 Wed 27-Mar-24 15:17:14

Oh yes, I hope we get some too DL. We were looking at plants this morning for the garden around our lodge but
Mr. S. said the ground's just too wet and the rather strong and cold wind wouldn't do them any good, so we'll wait until we come again.

At least he got the grass cut though.

DiamondLily Wed 27-Mar-24 15:05:14

Sounds great - the weather is really erratic down here in London/Kent.

Warm, cold, dry, hammering down and even hailstones lol

I feel I need some warm, sunny weather to sit outside and get some Vit D.

Hope everyone is having a nice day 💐x
