My granddaughter had this when she visited her 'Geordie' boyfriend's family. I'd love to make it for her tea when she comes tonight - any suggestions, or is it just as it sounds: corned beef and beans in pastry? hmm

I found this recipe on Yahoo - any use?

uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080822054614AAqnH9N

5oz corned beef
½ can baked beans
4oz puff pastry
plain flour, to dust
1 egg, beaten

1. oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7.
2. Mix the corned beef and baked beans together in a large bowl and then place into an ovenproof dish.
3. Roll the pastry out on a floured surface and cut into a large disc, big enough to cover the dish. Use the pastry to top the dish and then brush with egg wash.
4. Place in the oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and risen.

nanny1 that sounds just the thing! Thank you! Think I'll make double the quantity and put pastry on top and bottom, as that's how my granddaughter described it. smile

That is just how I used to make it for my kids - we got the recipe from another family. It was always top of the weekly request list! I have made it with sweetcorn or peas instead of beans, and with sausagemeat instead of corned beef, and with mashed potato instead of pastry - but it was always called "cowboy pie"

We've just had it and it was very tasty! I shall make it again! jackyann, it's now called 'Cowboy Pie'! smile

Have just remembered that the other family had Geordie grandparents, and am glad to hear about onions - another variation!

CORNED BEEF HASH

I have been given all sorts of recipes for this but none of them beats my late Mum's. Unfortunately, although I have her hand-written cook books, this one is missing. It was bliss, probably during rationing years.
