Lunch today was a banana dipped in home-roasted and mildly salted sunflower kernels. Haven't had that for years.

Gosh - seriously out of date post, sorry jeni didn't look at the dates of earlier posts and thught this was a new(ish) thread.
Out of interest - how did it go?

gracesmum Wed 08-Aug-12 16:01:43

Wow, serious real cooking too!
Re the outlaws- just be wary of the Dutch courage! They willl be just as apprehensive - and only we know how right they are to worry gringrin

Flat bread and cottage cheese - trying to be good!

Lunch today was taken out in the open, with a friend at a lovely arboretum in Cornwall. Some large soft baps, hot cooked pork, some stuffing and apple sauce, s*d the Weightwatchers today. It was wonderful.

The last time I threw anything edible it was at DH - a cut loaf, which burst on impact, scattering bread far and wide, and partially stunning the cat in the process. Since the bread was swiftly followed by a packet of frozen peas, which also boi, I surpassed myself. And how many peas in the packet for God's sake? The places that I found peas, some of them months later are too numerous to list here!

DH sat unperturbed throughout, only stirring to resuscitate the cat!

Caro

bagitha I must just end up throwing them at Mr absent. grin

GoldenGran Sun 22-Jan-12 14:08:48

Absent a, lol! I threw first husband's cooked breakfast on the floor years and years ago,and then refused to clean it up, we circled round it for ages, went to bed with it still there, but he snuck down and did it in the middle of the night! grin

bagitha Sun 22-Jan-12 14:05:34

Get those buttered cream crackers out, absent. All will be well. grin

Gally Sun 22-Jan-12 13:58:39

Absent grinshock

absentgrana Sun 22-Jan-12 13:24:34

Not only did I not have any lunch yesterday owing to the complete absence of food from the refrigerator, I finished up throwing two full plates of dinner in the kitchen bin following a row with Mr absent concerning the potatoes.

Gally Sun 22-Jan-12 13:13:49

Thanks everyone; the headache seems to have gone - but maybe it's the cocktail of painkillers keeping it at bay! The smell of brie and bacon is wafting up my nostrils - must be time for a smackeral as Pooh would have said grin

supernana Sun 22-Jan-12 12:12:48

bagitha I adore Brie. Must try it with bacon...an interesting combination. Glen Etive, a marvellous location. Have umpteen photos of us tramping along the shores in the days when my hips were happy to operate in a pain-free manner. smile

glammanana Sat 21-Jan-12 19:10:06

Here's hoping you will feel better gally and ga a little tlc is better than any medicine so take care and have a good rest.thanks for you both .

bagitha Sat 21-Jan-12 18:36:09

Get well soon, gally and ga. No fun being unwell! sad

I had half a lovely Brie and bacon panini with salad at the Kings House Hotel at the head of Glen Etive for lunch. One of the kayaking boys, who said he didn't like Brie, ate the other half after his own different panini and large bowl of chips. Just shows what you can do when you're eighteen and hungry after chasing a kayak paddle 2km down a Scottish glen in sleet and ferocious wind!

supernana Sat 21-Jan-12 16:39:22

jeni ALWAYS be true to yourself. sunshine
gally get well soon smile
GA ((hugs)) for a speedy recovery. xx

greenmossgiel Sat 21-Jan-12 15:53:53

Hope you feel better soon, Gally! Also GA - the antibiotics will hopefully soon kick in. Take it easy - both of you. thanks

Gally Sat 21-Jan-12 14:36:01

Oh GA I do hope you will be better in time for your happy hols. Hope the anti B's do the trick. Don't you just love a poached egg on toast? I could eat one everyday, although unlike Mr GA I don't think Mr.G is up to much more than buying bread from the baker! thanks

grannyactivist Sat 21-Jan-12 14:25:17

Hope your sore head is feeling better Gally
I had an emergency appointment with the out of hours doctor this morning, so breakfast was my usual medication followed by the first of a week's worth of antibiotics. Lunch was poached egg on delicious freshly baked (not by me - husband's the bread baker) granary bread.

Gally Sat 21-Jan-12 14:17:39

Just got up as I have had a cracking headache all morning; Mr. G heated up some soup and made a small salad with leftovers which was very welcome. I had another Ibuprofen for pudding grin

glammanana Sat 21-Jan-12 14:07:12

Well just had second helping of carrot and corriander soup and some nutty bread (one slice only glass) and have put the rest in freezer for next week,to-night having shepherds pie, made this am so am having relaxing afternoon.smile

jeni Sat 21-Jan-12 13:18:50

Butternut Sat 21-Jan-12 13:09:51

Good Luck jeni - repeat after me.......it will be delicious!

jeni Sat 21-Jan-12 12:34:50

I'm cooking tonight for dd her partner and? gdd. Poussin with lemon garlic and rosemary. Baby new potatoes and veg. I can't remember when I last cooked a proper meal. Usually it's a take out when they come but in some mad moment I decided to cook! Hope it turns out ok. I am NOT the domesticated kind. Wish me luck!

absentgrana Sat 21-Jan-12 12:06:49

It is nearly lunch time and there is absolutely nothing in the fridge apart from orange juice, half a bottle of wine, half a jar of home-made mincemeat and various sauces, mayonnaise, vinaigrettes, etc. However, it is sparkling clean thanks to Mr absent – I just did the sorting and chucking. I had the last slice of bread toasted for breakfast. The fruit bowl is empty. I think I shall have to go shopping – and then maybe I shall pop into my favourite coffee shop for a sandwich (always served with salad on the side).

Ariadne Sat 21-Jan-12 11:22:49

flowerfriend that's what I do - save caloires for the evening. So lunch is usually one slice of wholemeal bread and two slices of Edam (I'm vegetarian and don't have dairy products on the whole, but know I need the calcium.)

If you're feeling lonely ((hugs)) there's always GN! x

jeni Sat 21-Jan-12 11:19:02

em et al. Thanks for the advice! If I'm going to meet any body I suppose I'd better get up and shower etc. lie in as painful foot all last night. faye stop passing your complaints around!
