Lidl currently have syrup from their "Deluxe" range on offer at less that £1.50 a bottle.

Just having coffee with a slug of hazelnut flavour, yummy! They also do vanilla and caramel flavours.

I like a lot of lidl's food, but it is tucked away in the wrong direction for anything else, so tend to use it more in summer

When I lived in Cornwall (60s) there was a huge Cash and Carry place called Trago Mills - would that have been connected to the Trago mentioned here?

Yes, * feetle* it's the very same!It has grown amazingly though [the one near Indian Queens.] Full of mad statues in the garden and ducks waddling around. We first discovered it when we were living in Cornwall in the 1970's.Now there are at least 2 other Trago shops as well. Such great value.

We always go to the Trago Mills in Falmouth when we are there, you never know what you will find there. We have our morning cup of tea in pint-sized cornishware mugs from them, I think they were only about £3 each!

I paid my monthly visit to Aldi yesterday, to stock up on al the things that are cheaper and nicer than I can get from my more local Tesco. Cooked meats, cheeses, grapes, nibbles and wine for my book club, milk chocolate with almonds (delicious and so cheap) I have to practically run past their buns and cakes and breads section.

Every month I ask myself why I don't do all my shopping there, and the answer is I just love having my shopping delivered. Some Tesco products are pretty dire, I just make a note not to buy them again and put them on the Aldi list. You could resole a shoe with the Tesco cheaper camemberts, but at almost 50p cheaper you can have a delicious ripe one from Aldi, so I buy in bulk for the month ahead.

We find that the fruit and veg in Lidl is much fresher than any other supermarket round here. The best thing of all for us is bring able to buy stuff that is NOT FRENCH. The Italian week was great and we bought a lot of the lovely Prosecco and some great red wines, Pecorino cheese and biscuits for cheese. When it is English week you have to rush in and buy up the stilton before everyone else gets there.
We always seek out Lidl when we are in Spain or Italy and stock up with local stuff.

They had some really good stuff in the Italian week this time didn't they Mamie DH and GS1 love the sugar sprinkled biscuits and was able to stock up with Pecorino and the filled croissants. My friend in Verona does most of her shopping in Lidl and I reckon if it's good enough for her .......

We went to Lidl in Turin when we were there for the weekend Deedea. The slightly more expensive wines were fabulous and OH was furious that we had travelled by train and couldn't take some home.
The other great thing is how they always seem to have what you want when you want it. Last summer we got a pavilion for the garden for 59€ when we needed one urgently and thought we were going to have to pay much more than that.

Jane - probably a silly question, but if you like to have your shop delivered - why are you using Tesco if you don't like them? Don't any of the others deliver in your area?

We could have a Sainsbury's delivery but it's a very small branch. I tried them but so much would be out of stock that I gave up. One of the disadvantages of living out in the sticks. I could give them another go perhaps - the Bury branch is being enlarged soon, maybe they will deliver from there instead, I live halfway between the two towns.

If you ever tried the Thetford branch of Tesco compared to say, King's Lynn, or Bury, you would be appalled. Their fruit and veg is dire. DBH bought me some flowers last week and they were rotten. Their manager needs sacking.
