I also picked up another a bottle of their Irish Cream stuff, a bit like Baileys but only £3.99 a bottle!

Lidl also do a pack of biscuits which are Twix-alikes. Plain or dark chocolate.
I can't tell you the name because I've eaten the whole pack!
They are delicious.

Another Lidl one!

Needed some tomato ketchup, Lidl had Heinz in stock, plus one called "Kania" which on closer inspection is made by (or for) Lidl. For the same size bottle the Heinz was £1.69 (I think, or it may have been £1.96) anyway, the Kania was £1 cheaper! When I checked further, the Kania actually has more tomato per gm of the finished product than the Heinz one. No prizes for guessing which I bought.

Three cheers for Lidl...........they have saved me a fortune....Hip hip hurrah

Not a food, but Dentalux toothpaste from Lidl, 47p for a large (125 ml) tube.

As far as I can tell, it contains the same things as other brands, comes in 2 "flavours" mint and herbal. We are on our second lot of the mint, haven't tried the herbal but a friend who doesn't like minty flavours uses it all the time.

Must tell you even though it may be too late for some, Lidl's Deluxe Mince pies are much, much nicer than either M&S or Waitrose.

I always use Aldi's dishwasher tablets and they seem just as good as any of the others and their basic kitchen surface cleaner seems to work better than some of the expensive ones.

Aldi's dishwashing tablets do a first rate job which reminds me I have to clear the damn thing before I go to bed. yawn

I truly believe that for some products, Aldi and Lidl take quite a lot of beating for quality and value. The German products especially seem very good. Having said that we weren't that struck on the Lidl Cava, not quite dry enough for us, hence the Asda recommendation, but the Lidl Gluhwien (sp) is jolly nice!

Just so you don't think that it's only the alcoholic beverages, I am now totally commited to their W5 washing up liquid, as good as Fairy and far cheaper, plus it seems to suit my hands better.

Please note that with regard to the product mentioned above, I am actually using it to wash up, not drink!

Just started the Aldi luxury Pannetone, £9.99 in a fancy tin. Pleased to say it's a very nice one, quite moist and fresh. They've also got an Austrian dessert wine which is very nice at 4.99.

when I managed to find some Aldi's own-brand Spanish Toro Loco Tempranillo, bought two to try its gorgeous should have bought a box, hope they have some in stock when I go this week.

Aldi hot smoked salmon, either plain or with black pepper. Great value. I was shopping there today with skint student GD (having taken her out to lunch first) and was able to pick up a few titbits for myself.

Have just bought 6 bottles of the Asda Cava in store and ordered some more on line.

I made Mr.P do a blind taste test against one at £4.99 and another around £6. He liked the Asda one best!

I have now also tried the Lidl Amaretto, and very delish it is too! My friends were spot on, so lovely to have a splosh of in a mug of coffee!

Up date on the Morrisons curry, they seem to now only be doing one in a plastic bag, not the brown paper one that we have always had. Sorry to say nowhere near as nice, a big disappointment. Smaller portions too, although it is a little bit cheaper, but I won't buy it again.

I had my eye on that Ella - same branch of Lidl, I would guess - but if I bought it now I would probably eat the lot sooner rather than later. But have guests coming at new year. Good excuse.

We had a bottle of Aldi's £12.95 champagne at the weekend. Very acceptable, we'll be getting a few bottles in. It came out well in the Which? tests. So did Tesco £14.99 and Morrison's £19.99. Will be giving those a go as well.

Another one that I've just remembered (we've been having it for so long, I forgot to put it on here!)

Morrisons Indian takeway for 2. (They also do a pack for 1) It comes in a brown paper bag, contains 2 chicken dishes, pilau rice, onion bhajis and naan bread. There is a choice of combinations, eg. tikka masala/korma, madras/korma, jal freezi etc. Very good portion size, works out cheaper than buying each dish seperately. We usually go for the jal freezi/korma option. They are both delish, the korma although mild has plenty of flavour and the jal freezi is pretty hot!

The only down side is that we seem to have an awful lot of naan breads in the freezer, as the pack comes with 2 and we only ever do 1!

Also yesterday I made venison casserole again (at MrP's request) using the Lidl diced shoulder at £6.99 for 500g. Lovely!

Yes, they wander where they like and get winter food supplements, but I'm less keen on eating the ones that get shot up with routine antibiotics every year (see above)

The deer do get food supplements in winter at Tatton and Dunham. The Scotch Beef centre in Disley used to take farmed deer from a private owner in Windlehurst nearby. They all wander where they like, farmed or not.
