if people take much notice of all these different reports that keep cropping up.

Now we are supposed to limit our daily intake of ham/bacon to 20 grams a day! Less than an ounce! And apparently sausages, pies, and suchlike are a big no-no.

And, of course, if we eat red meat we will die.

And watch your fats!

and the Today programme gets worse with their reporting of it hmm (approx 2hrs 15 mins in)

People clearly aren't convinced cos they keep eating the stuff wink. Not surprising when you think that sausages and bacon in various forms are what northern Europeans have survived winters on for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

I thought they said some red meat was good for you? I think it was poor quality meat that was the problem though they weren't sure why. We buy prize-winning sausages from our butcher that are just meat and pretty much fat free. Mind you every butcher in France seems to have prize-winning sausages. There seem to be lots of competitions. hmm

j08 If we don't eat red meat, we'll die too. grin

We might have needed all that fat to survive northern winters hundreds and thousands of eons ago.........before the advent of central heating.

Absent confused

How do vegetarians manage?

Yes, one of them seemed to think some red meat is beneficial.

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 15:52:31

Oh! I see!!! grin

Yes. You are quite right. smile #bitslowtoday

Orca Thu 07-Mar-13 15:57:46

What bits of you are low today JO8?

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 16:09:21

grin (don't ask!)

annodomini Thu 07-Mar-13 16:31:17

This vegetarian is managing fine thanks, though I have to confess to being really a piscetarian.

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 16:33:39

Oh! I get it - pisces - fish. smile

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:44:36

Why do fish-but-not-meat eaters call themselves vegetarians? I've never understood that.

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 16:45:49

They don't! They call themselves piscetarians. #notalotofpeopleknowthatannodoes

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:46:01

I suppose there isn't a word for a meat eater who restricts their meat intake to watermeat as opposed to landmeat. You can see I'm struggling here!

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:46:40

But they don't generally call themselves piscetarians. That's the point.

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:47:58

And anyway, that wouldn't be accurate either. People who eat insects aren't called insectivores, but animals who only eat insects are.

No, piscetarians are omnivores who restrict the omni. We need to invent a word.

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:48:53

I eat meat but I'm not a carnivore.

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 16:50:51

the sign of pisces is a fish. so it must be right.

j08 Thu 07-Mar-13 16:52:10

like this

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:52:44

But.... oh, mever mind. anno knows what I mean wink

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:54:22

piscivore or piscetarian?

I prefer piscivore.

Hmmm. I suppose herbivore's the one for real vegetarians.

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 16:54:47

that's a question, btw

Butty Thu 07-Mar-13 16:55:49

How about demivore / demitarian hmm

I'm a bit of both - confusetarian perhaps wink

Basically no red meat............mostly

Bags Thu 07-Mar-13 17:02:07

How about "I don't eat meat"?

dustyangel Thu 07-Mar-13 17:30:25

Bags that's what I usually say, but I still frequently get offered chicken confused
