When my dad retired, he took up bread making and won prizes at the village show - that put the WI in their place! Also won prizes for his home-made wine which proved either that the judges had no palate or that the competition was truly diabolical! grin

glass Mr P quite often cooks, mainly batch cooking of chilli, spag bol or the Slimming World keema curry. He also makes an excellent macaroni cheese with "extras" ditto cauliflower cheese!

He has never attempted bread in any form, as he feels that a sliced hovis will do perfectly well, or we have "proper" bread from the village shop. he never seems to do any sort of post mortem on his efforts, perhaps because he has cooked them all so many times. (The very first thing he cooked for me was chilli, I came home to find every pan I owned bubbling away. He had used 3lbs of mince, 2 tins of chopped toms, 2 of kidney beans etc etc. I didn't have a freezer confused )

Exdh on the other hand would make delicious home made cream of tomato soup.

You know how the cooks on TV have everything (down to the last tablespoon of flour) measured out in little dishes or on saucers? Well, he cooked like that. Left the kitchen looking like a hyper active puppy had been let loose. The amount of washing up for a few bowls of soup was shock

No you don't Jo. Mine has 3 'specials' which he cooks, every 3/4 months, as though they are the best thing ever produced in this house and wants huge praise. It's much easier to do it oneself than to say how wonderful potato rosti with fried eggs tastes, yet again! grin

DH is watching the Paul Hollywood bread series.

I was presented with a list of things that if I didnt have them in cupboard would I get them on the shopping.

Yesterday he made a bloomer after watching the programme....... If I am asked once more what do I think of the texture, taste or quality I think someone is going to be wearing this loaf. shock

The second loaf he dropped on the floor after the proving and broke DD favourite red mixing bowl!

He has just come in and a look of panic on his face "you haven't thrown out my bread have you".

Why is it that DH when he cooks, bakes etc we have to have a post mortum on the item not once but over and over again...just as well we dont have to go through it every meal I make. hmm

And the second programme is on tonight shock oh what is in store this weekend!!!!

grin rant over grin
