Just made some flapjack type biscuits but disappointed as they have turned out soft and sticky. Any ideas if they can be rescued, re-used or shall I just bin them?
I must be losing my touch. Not used this particular recipe for a long time.

I love Mapp and Lucia. I just finished a book by EF Benson about the goings-on in a genteel boarding house, most enlightening.

Also love flapjacks as I have managed to convince myself that they are healthy because they contain oats, which are rumoured to carry away fat. They haven't yet succeeded in carrying away any of mine, so think I may have to increase flapjack intake.

Bye .Off to make sticky flapjack. Absolutely no will power whatsoever and in desperate need of comfort food .

And they didn't collapse (that says how hard they were). Perhaps I'm on to something - Biscottijacks - like it!

Sort of biscottijacks Nfk?

NfkDumpling Tue 28-Jan-14 22:15:44

Oh, Absent I'll remember your idea for next time if not before. My rock hard flapjacks just got dunked in coffee and all got eaten anyway!

DEE , you have also read E.F.Benson !

Scriggling was a favourite word of Miss Mapp in the Mapp and Lucia books by E.F.Benson.

ps for your failed biscuits, crumble them up and use as a topping over fruit for a pudding.
Return to a hot oven for 15 mins or so.

I made some like that yesterday, and they came out good, but some burnt on the bottom.(I've got a funny french gas oven.)
Try this recipe:
180ml oil mixed with 2 eggs, vanilla
Mix 200g w and b sugar, 300g mixed flours plus 50g extra grains (eg muesli)
Combine.
Medium oven, 20 to 30 mins, but watch in case they burn.
Avoid raisins.

Chop/break them up or pull them apart and mix with vanilla (or other) ice cream.

Ana Tue 28-Jan-14 20:01:30

No, I've honestly never come across that word before!

Nonu Tue 28-Jan-14 20:00:13

ANA, Ana ,scriggling --- writhe or twist about , but you knew that !!

Laugh !

Ana Tue 28-Jan-14 19:38:48

'Scriggling'! Never heard it called that before, Nonu! wink

Nonu Tue 28-Jan-14 19:22:16

Jane , as the actress said to the bishop !!
When he was scriggling !

janerowena Tue 28-Jan-14 19:19:32

Push it back in very firmly.

janerowena Tue 28-Jan-14 19:19:10

You can try, but it depends how much they had been removed. I gave my bedt friend very specific instructions not to remove hers - but she couldn't wait and they fell to bits. Try it and see.

NfkDumpling Tue 28-Jan-14 19:12:49

At least if they're sticky you can still eat them. I made some flapjacks for the family coming last weekend and I think I left them in a touch too long. Not burnt but they needed a hammer, chisel and good teeth!

Soutra Tue 28-Jan-14 19:07:22

Too true, alas! sad wink

janerowena Tue 28-Jan-14 19:05:36

Little pickers wear bigger knickers! I love that.

mrsmopp Tue 28-Jan-14 19:05:33

Yes, I used butter, oats, flour, some sugar, spoon of honey. Put them on a baking tray & they spread out as they do, ended up touching each other. Should I have left them in tin to cool? Thought they'd have stuck to tin if I did that. They just need to crisp up a bit. Back in the oven, would that work?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jan-14 19:05:12

Soft and sticky would n't bother me! Sigh!!!

Nonu Tue 28-Jan-14 19:02:05

Steady on Soutra .
Remember "Little pickers wear bigger knickers "

Nonu Tue 28-Jan-14 18:59:10

HOWDY de DOODY , Paige , nice to see you , hope life is treating you well.

Soutra Tue 28-Jan-14 18:58:22

Oh poor you! You could send them to me and I'd take them off your hands grin or, I imagine, GNHQ could force themselves to help out? grinwink

Paige Tue 28-Jan-14 18:41:46
