Tonight we had Chicken Kiev with Lyonnaise potatoes. I have to admit the CK was not made by me but a local butcher whose ready meals are really, really good but I did make the Lyonnaise potatoes myself and I know I shouldn`t blow my own trumpet but it was a good meal

Pork ribs slathered in marinade and cooked in the slow cooker. I'll probably crisp them up in the oven, served with oven chips (po-tah-toes from the garden); the beetroot relish I made yesterday (beets also from the garden); and a green salad with tomaytoes (the latter from the garden!).

Cake-in-a-mug each with Bramley apple (also from the garden).

It's a treat dinner tonight smile

NanKate at this time of year there is always courgette surprise - it's a surprise it's not courgettes ...ditto runner beans!

NanKate Wed 24-Sept-14 16:03:16

You make courgette sound almost tasty Jam.

Ravioli, mixed salad, followed by baked apple and low fat Elmlea. We know how to eat in the Thames Valley you know. grin

Trying to deplete the courgette mountain, so tonight will have courgette bake layered with tomatoes, onions and mozzarella - and some of the potato mountain, roasted I think.

We'll I have just put on a venison sausage casserole. Freshly made sausages from our local estate. Loads of veggies and a yummy oxo and red wine gravy. Better than last night, burned fish fingers chewy sprouting broccoli. Complaints all round.

Glad I saw this post as it reminded me to take the prawns out of the freezer for a prawn Thai curry. Not sure yet whether it will be green or red.

Sorry susieb755, not a meat eater so steak or shepherds pie leave me cold - although I do enjoy a nice bit of fish!

susieb755 Wed 24-Sept-14 14:04:56

I have hospital this afternoon so have made yummy shepherds pie, and will get DH to bung it in the oven when I leave to come home , I love shepherds pie more than steak !

Jamsidedown - vegetable roll is made using sausage meat, onions and leeks.the butcher puts it all together like a fat sausage in a casing and it's sliced to be a burger shape. It would be used in a fry up or grilled, I cook it on the George foreman grill.

Family coming home from abroad for a visit always want a vegetable roll fry up, and of course the local Tayto cheese 'n onion crisps.

coolgran65 never heard of vegetable roll even though my dad was from Belfast! But there again my mum was from England and she did the cooking - what is it?

Flowerofthewest Tue 23-Sept-14 23:17:30

Taste the Difference smoked salmon roasted in foil with sweet chilli sauce, in a wrap with salad and served with saute potatoes in Olive oil. (Had to use them up somehow)

Absolutely stick to the ribs dinner tonight as we had DGC with us.
Boiled potatoes, grilled butcher quality sausages and vegetable roll, Heinz baked beans with a dash of Worcestershire sauce (and a sprinkle of parmesan for the adults). With butter on the potatoes smile

I wonder is vegetable roll particular to N. Ireland ??

Ooh yes, I've had that and it is lovely - I like the fish pie as well.

We thoroughly enjoy the Waitrose meals - they do a lovely open style ravioli with plenty of tomatoes and herbs. It comes in a yellow cardboard type dish and is ovenproof. I think the company who makes them is Charlie Bingham, coupled with a nice cool glass of white wine it's a perfect meal.

kittylester Tue 23-Sept-14 20:16:17

Waitrose ready meals bought on the motorway because we were very tired after a day with DGDs! grin

What is everyone having tonight? We are having roasted aubergine, tomato and chickpea tagine from my new birthday present recipe book. It sounds delicious- hope it tastes the same!

kittylester Mon 22-Sept-14 20:23:36

Ann we are not too keen on gnocchi but went with paprika chicken and rice. Persuaded DS1 that he would like lamb keema and yet more rice on Wednesday!

NanKate Mon 22-Sept-14 19:20:08

Welcome Jam I am not a very adventurous cook but have picked up some good ideas from this thread.

jamsidedown Mon 22-Sept-14 18:52:21

Hello, I am new to these parts - can I join in?

Last night my DS came over and cooked us dinner as a belated birthday treat, goats cheese and red onion lasagne, patatas bravas (basically roast tatties in spicy tomato chilli garlic sauce) and sautéed asparagus - totally yum! Followed by Viennetta - a blast from the past.

That's enough showing off - tonight it's a bit of sea bass and carrots from the allotment. It's a diet day so short commons!

annsixty Mon 22-Sept-14 18:25:37

kitty for anything with paprika, chicken or goulash, we like gnocci (sp) and shop bought is so quick and easy

hildajenniJ Mon 22-Sept-14 18:05:19

Tonight it's pizza and chips with what's left of the salad from lunch time. Got to go hungry tomorrow as it is diet day.sad

NanKate Mon 22-Sept-14 17:59:40

Quorn and blancmange are the only two things I can never eat, revolting. sad

Katek Mon 22-Sept-14 17:17:45

Stir fry with Quorn pieces followed by fruit/yoghurt.

kittylester Mon 22-Sept-14 17:04:04

Something with chicken breasts! Why do people change plans at the last minute! confused I was going to do spicy sausage pasta tonight and paprika chicken on Wednesday but DS has decided to come for a meal on Wednesday [mainly to watch the match!!] and has requested the sausage pasta. We had chicken and rice yesterday so can't have rice tonight, no one likes paprika chicken with potatoes. Flipping people!!

NanKate Mon 22-Sept-14 16:34:39

Egg and chips sounds good to me Rose.

Hedgehog mushrooms sound fun and unusual Mamie

I am about to stuff and bake a couple of Bramleys and even at this time of year DH likes me to fill them with mincemeat and a dollop of golden syrup, with just a small dribble of Elmlea, yes I know it is an indulgence but the 'eat by date' is Saturday - my 68th birthday smile

I've hinted I would like to be taken out for a meal, so much so himself has suggested I book a table. I don't need anymore encouragement, where's the phone ?
