I read about the French supermarket's legislation and thought it a huge step forward, not being too simplistic about it but a charity like say the salvation Army can easily make soup and toast from veg and bread on its sell by date and feed the people they support. I hope that the legislation is brought into the UK too, apart from the obvious use of good food, it may also stop the supermarkets from stacking their shelves quite so high with perishable foods and then tempting the shopper into buying more than they need. Bogoffs are fine in some instances if one has a freezer, but generally I find they are not the bargain they purport to be. I also wish that the Uk supermarkets would introduce proper bags for life, not the slightly thicker carrier bags they do at the moment. I use French bags every week for shopping, books to charity shop etc and haven't been to France for four years!
