Dh and I both have heavy colds so no golf today - we must be ill. I have made us comfort food - a curry, a rice pudding and a Victoria Sponge (don't worry that its not balanced as a meal I'll spread it out). What is your comfort food when feeling poorly?

PS While I have been doing this DH has been slaving away on his computer as he isn't not well. wink

Got a bad throat and cough. I don't fancy anything at all. Son dosing me with honey and lemon........Not keen.

Comfort food has to be instant - I can't manage to cook or faff around in times of need - so hot buttered toast or crumpets and mugs of something hot to drink is my default comfort setting. But I can feel a little tickle somewhere Teetime, can I come and join you and DH, all that sounds right up my street!!!

I'm having an off day so I'm making a huge chilli!

Have had a horrid lurgie all week, not much to eat at all, and it all tastes of cotton wool anyway, so am mainly living on hot tea and ginger biscuits.

Tinned or cuppa soup (shock horror)
Or quiet often cereal if I don't feel up to

Rice pudding

Steak and kidney pudding, not pie. I always have 2 Waitrose ones in the freezer.

My mother used to give us buttered Jacobs Cream Crackers and Heinz Cream of Tomato soup if we were ill as children - don't know why. I fancy the steak and kidney pud - might get some in but its true everything tastes of nothing. Another sleepless night with DH coughing all night, my mueseli tasted like wood shavings this morning.

Haagen Dasz Pralines and Cream ice cream,I can actually polish off a whole tub (500g) in one sitting, but feel rather worse after grin

Tinned tomato (cream of) soup, hot buttered toast. If seriously stressed I make homemade butterscotch sauce to pour (hot) over ice cream.

Bread with hot milk and lashings of sugar... so comforting.
Also, I've got a secret passion for curry flavoured Pot Noodles.. don't tell anyone!

Falconbird Sat 17-Oct-15 10:39:09

Hot chocolate sauce on vanilla ice cream.

Custard in a cup (childhood comfort food when I'd been ill.)

Porridge is a favourite. Mashed potato with poached egg. Bread and butter pudding. Sausage toad in the hole.

Any nursery food, really!

crisps If I am feeling ropey and in need of comfort cooking is the last thing I want to do,however food cooked by someone else is a different matter especially if I can sit back and wait for it in comfort.

Greyduster Sat 17-Oct-15 12:40:43

Home made fish pie.

loopylou Sat 17-Oct-15 12:57:38

I'm feeling decidedly rough, spent the last three days in bed.
Everything is tasteless, even Heinz tomato soup that tasted horribly metallic sad
Gone right off coffee, drinking diet coke as water tastes awful too.

Any suggestions for comfort food very welcome.

Heinz tomato soup with toast - guaranteed to warm my heart.

daffydil Sat 17-Oct-15 17:19:49

Cheese on toast topped with poached egg with a cup of tea followed by a bar of chocolate.

shysal Sat 17-Oct-15 17:37:38

Home-made Wagyu beef casserole from the freezer, with crusty bread or jacket potato. Almost worth feeling poorly! smile

Nelliemoser Sun 18-Oct-15 09:23:28

Hot buttered toast and Marmite and cups of tea.

DH has been up all night again - four nights in a row - shall I strangle him or treasure him?
