Did anyone see the worlds most expensive cocktail on the TV programme entitled something like The Most Expensive Christmas a few nights ago. It cost £8,800 which is obscene of course but it got me thinking about sharing cocktail favourites on here. I'm not big on cocktails but a champagne cocktail made with a teaspoon (or 2) of brandy, 1 sugar cube topped up with champagne is a Christmas special for me. What's yours? wine

Loopylou I have never actually sampled the drink, but my son mentioned it once, and was rather shocked when I laughed - seemed to think I was above even knowing about such matters.

ethel You can mix it up as much as you want, but be prepared for it to be yeuggghhh. The famous ones taste good and are copied for that reason.

The slow comfortable screw against the wall has an interesting name. It has -
1 1/2 shots vodka
1/2 shot sloe gin liqueur
1/2 shot Southern Comfort liquueur
3 1/2 shots freshly squeezed orange juice (must be for your 5 a day)
1/4 shot Galliano l'Autentico liqueur

Shake first four ingredients with ice and strain into glass. Float Galliano on top.

Then try to walk in a straight line.
I think it must have got its name because you wouldn't refuse a SCSATW after a few of these.

can you mix liquers to make a cocktail and somebody said baileys is a liquer is that true. I thought that mixing drinks was jus pouring lots of different stuff together. I now know its a cocktail sooo confusing. Why don't they put cocktial in a bottle ready mixed

Has anyone bought Cool Swan? I like it much better than Bailey's. It's MB are with white chocolate and cream. It's lovely added to double cream and whipped for a special pudding. I will be doing this on Christmas Day!

hildajenniJ Wed 23-Dec-15 12:17:52

Singapore sling. Lovely, but you've got to like cherry brandy!

Elegran Wed 23-Dec-15 11:32:39

A liqueur is one sort of alcohol with a flavouring and/or an addition (Baileys with coffee and cream, Tia Maria with coffee) which is already in it when you buy it)

A cocktail is a mixture of several alcoholic drinks, sometimes with other things added (fruit syrups, chopped fruit, cucumber, mint leaves, little umbrellas stuck into the top, and so on) which is mixed on the spot by someone who has the recipe (or who makes it up as he goes along, with varying degrees of success)

The result of several different cocktails is usually a splitting headache and a rebellious stomach.

moon

You can mix liqueurs with non alcoholic or alcoholic drinks. An example of the former would be Tia Maria and Coke and the latter a Kir Royale where you mix Cassis with Chsmpagne.

These are not cocktails.

ill

a liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from a distilled spirit that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener.

Mixing your drinks will only make you I'll if you drink too much.

etheltbags1 Tue 22-Dec-15 23:43:42

what the difference between a cocktail and a liquer or are cocktails a mix of liquers, I always thought that if you mix your drinks it made you ill.

Anya Tue 22-Dec-15 23:36:53

I think more than two can be alcohol possibly. They are pretty potent but often taste sweet and innocuous.

Anya Tue 22-Dec-15 23:35:24

Vermouth isn't a mixer, it's a kind of fortified wine flavoured with 'botanicals' which gives it its unique flavour.

A cocktail is any beverage that contains at least three drinks, two of which are alcoholic.

etheltbags1 Tue 22-Dec-15 22:49:14

rose is it really considered sophisticated to slop an amount of booze with several different kinds and drink the mixture which must taste horrible. I would have thought that it would be better to drink a lovely fresh juice or smoothie, Im thinking of the damage all those mixy drinks might do to someones insides.

I go to bed with my chocolate and don't envy those out drinking the mixed up c...p that is apparently a cock tail.
