Cocktail anyone?

Did anyone see the worlds most expensive cocktail on the TV programme entitled something like The Most Expensive Christmas a few nights ago. It cost £8,800 which is obscene of course but it got me thinking about sharing cocktail favourites on here. I'm not big on cocktails but a champagne cocktail made with a teaspoon (or 2) of brandy, 1 sugar cube topped up with champagne is a Christmas special for me. What's yours? wine

I posted a reply ages ago...... where has it gone?

I think there must be gremlins in my poota today confused

gillybob Thu 17-Dec-15 12:50:29

I saw that program too Teetime It is obscene how some people are so rich they don't know what to spend it on (like that young Russian girl) and others don't know where their next meal will come from. Life is just so unfair.

Anyway back to subject in hand.....

My favourite cocktail is a Bellini. Dee bloomin' lishus smile

Woooppeeee! 20th time lucky !

I love a Bellini too! Nine is much quicker than that though! One third Creme de peche and two thirds prosecco. Aldi have a lovely Creme de peche for £8.99. Might try the brandy one!! wine

Friends made a fabulous cocktail with melon liqueur and goodness knows what. 1st was lovely, 2nd was delicious, the 3rd was interesting, the 4th I don't remember........

First and last time I had a liqueur ?

I use fresh peach juice from Waitrose kittylester (we don't have a Waitrose near us so DD brings me a few bottles when she can)

It makes a delicious Bellini. Just Prosecco and Peach juice. Easy peasy.

I'm going to look for that Creme de peche in Aldi though. Yummmmmyyyy

Vodka, Ginger beer and freshly squeezed lime juice made in a jug. It's called a Moscow Mule and is quite delicious.

NanSue Thu 17-Dec-15 13:40:47

Snap gillybob That is exactly how I make a peach Bellini! I can't get the peach juice anywhere other than Waitrose though even though I've looked everywhere. For a change I add a little grenadine to it. I had a blueberry Bellini the other evening in Frankie & Benny's but I can't find pure blueberry juice anywhere.

gillybob Thu 17-Dec-15 13:48:11

Like you I have looked everywhere for peach juice NanSue and have only found it in Waitrose. Blueberry Bellini sounds scrumptious. Now where to find blueberry juice............

I sometimes make a Moscow mule which DH likes - likes all things gingery really. He likes a Whiskey Mac but its not really a cocktail (never know if whiskey should have an e or not).

Greyduster Thu 17-Dec-15 14:26:48

Only if it's Irish whiskey. The Scots drink whisky!

Teetime Thu 17-Dec-15 14:29:05

Ah thank you - without then in this house.

rosequartz Thu 17-Dec-15 14:31:27

It cost £8,800 which is obscene of course

The consolation is that someone else is making a living out of these stupid people tchgrin
Silver lining and all that

kittylester Thu 17-Dec-15 14:33:27

Creme de Peche is a liqueur not your ordinary peach juice!! [hic]

gillybob Thu 17-Dec-15 14:54:17

Sounds bloomin' lush kittylester

kittylester Thu 17-Dec-15 16:20:27

It is grin

Black Russian : Vodka (which I don't usually like) Tia Maria and cola. Ends up with a sort of chocolatety taste!

I saw an interesting recipe the other day, which I haven't tried yet but sounds good

Poinsettia: Sparkling wine, cranberry juice and orange liqueur (Lidl do a cheap one, lower alcohol than the famous brands, but around £6)

But of course I do love Champagne cocktails!

loopy sounds like it might have been a Harvey Wallbanger, it's the only cocktail I can think of with melon liqueur, but could be wrong!

annsixty Thu 17-Dec-15 19:28:16

A Harvey Wallbanger is Gin ,Galliano any orange jiuce and it's delicious.

absent Thu 17-Dec-15 20:30:47

annsixty A Harvey Wallbanger – named after an eponymous drinker whose weakness for this concoction made him somewhat unsteady on his feet – is made with vodka, Galliano and orange juice, not gin.

annsixty Thu 17-Dec-15 21:28:12

Actually I am embarrassed to say I knew that perfectly well, I just had a senior moment. I usually buy it "In a can" from M&S and a wine writer described it as tasting like Berocca.tchblush

absent Thu 17-Dec-15 23:31:08

No need for embarrassment annsixty. I don't think Galliano and gin is a very palatable combination but I do know of two cocktails that use this mix. Alcudla is a mix of 2 measures gin, 1 measure banana liqueur, 1 measure Galliano and 1 measure grapefruit juice shaken over ice. After One is a mix of 1 measure gin, 1 measure sweet vermouth, 1 measure Campari and 1 measure Galliano stirred over ice.

I can't say that either of them appeals to me although I do quite like gin-based cocktails. I can also down the odd Harvey Wallbanger when given the chance!

Nelliemoser Thu 17-Dec-15 23:56:01

I havent heard of half of these. What an innocent I am.

We once had a party where the only drinks on offer were Harvey Wallbangers and San Miguel beer. Those were the days blushblush
