Wilton Candy Melts - advice please.

Of course I want to eat them! It is a diet day today, but I can wait until tomorrow. I have a cookie recipe too, but that would make the Smarties even more calorific and I would scoff the lot!

What am i talking about "if you don't want to eat them". In the time its taken to type these two posts i'd have eaten the lot!

If you don't want to eat them, i have a recipe for smartie cookies that uses two tubes of smarties!

The topper is just flat, and I did have the forethought to place it on a circle of fondant, as the cake is coated with salted caramel buttercream (Co-op).
Got a bit OCD, found myself organizing the Smarties into rainbow order plus brown, but it didn't work out when I ended a circle! There are 2 tubes of left-overs to eat for myself.

What a super cake! It looks like it's in relief - is it, or is it flat? It looks too good to cut! DD tried an icing topper one year and it was a bit of a disaster, because she hadn't thought about the base she was applying it to and tried to put it over buttercream icing instead of a layer of fondant. But, like your cake pops, the kids thought it was great and it all got scoffed! When my 'meister werk' is completed, i'll post a piccy and you can have a good laugh.?

You are very brave greyduster!. They look a bit fiddly to me, I am sure you have seen the examples on Google. I would love to see the results.

I have taken the lazy way out today, as I have 3 birthdays within a week to bake for, and bought icing toppers. I have just finished the Pug (DGS6 loves the breed).

Lakeland sell them. This afternoon i am embarking on making the decorations for the top of my grandson's birthday cake - fondant icing minions! If you had doubts about your cake pops, shysal, i have them in spades about this!

I had never heard of these, but will look out for them now!

Update - DD reports that they all sold immediately. One little girl was in tears because she missed out!

greyduster, thank you for your thoughts. I did use dark and white chocolate once to make Christmas pudding cake pops, but found the second coat, ie the white topping, melted the first layer, so I used icing instead. However, for designs of one colour I agree that is the way to go.

This is probably a very silly suggestion, but if you give up on the candy melts (i've never used them) why not try melting white chocolate buttons and add food gel colouring? In theory, it should work ?. Please feel free to shoot me down in flames!

The children will love them.
