Take one tin of chipshop style mushy peas. Place in microwave saucepan. Microwave till it bubbles. Turn into bowl. Add a slice or two half fat cheese. Wait for cheese to melt. Eat.

14 grams protein. Very satisfying. And yummy.

One person needs a whole tin.

Oh no, pease pudding! I can only remember it being served cold, at every funeral I went to in the North East. Yuck, yuck and thrice yuck.

My Yorkshire DMIL used to serve mushy peas with bits of ham hock in them, served in a soup bowl with vinegar (and a spoon).

'This week, I shall be mainly eating.......cheesy peas' !

Ana Thu 11-Feb-16 20:12:01

Yes, bring back the Fast Show! Please...

Paul Whitehouse is such a good actor. Very funny, but whenever I've seen him as himself he seems quite shy. I love the old guy who mumbles drunkenly and ends up say " I was very, very drunk!"

" Scorchio!!"

There's a place in Sussex called pease Pottage.. how mad is that?!

Ana Thu 11-Feb-16 22:06:01

Yes, that was Caroline Aherne, wasn't it? Shame she had to semi-retire, she was such a funny actress.

You can get pea and mint soup in Waitrose, but mine is nicer, using frozen garden peas and a good-sized bunch of mint, chopped up very small. I sweat and onion or shallot first, bung in the peas, mint, bay leaves and stock (made with Marigold powder). I do it in the pressure cooker which makes quick work of it and then pulverise it with the stick blender. Yummy.

And today I made spicy butternut squash soup - also yummy!

I was going to say something about your salty aftertaste Jing but, would I? blush

Oh yes, bring back The Fast Show! Dave Angel was my favourite. On a moonlight shadow.....

GrannyAsNanny Fri 12-Feb-16 16:17:39

Ralph and Ted were my favourites. Fast Show repeats please!

Please pudding is obligatory in a ham sandwich here in the north east and very nice too! In fact, a ham sandwich is nothing without it and I'm not originally from the north east! I've never had it fried though. I will try it! It's really easy to make your own with yellow split peas and ham stock, butter and an egg. Season carefully because ham stock can be pretty salty. Recipes abound on the internet but mine is simple and came with my pressure cooker. I'll share it if anyone wants it but you need a pressure cooker for the cooking times to work.

No thanks, lizzy - pease pudding's one of the few things I don't miss from my beloved birthplace! smile

lizzypopbottle Fri 12-Feb-16 22:37:26

Hi Maggie, I must admit I regarded pease pudding with suspicion when it was first offered but I'm glad I tried it!

I very recently found that mushy peas ( which I'd always avoided) are fine with plenty of black pepper

For me the very occasional fish and chips (shop bought frozen battered fish with home made sweet poatato chips) is nothing without mushy peas to round it off.
