Sainsbury's and Waitrose do not have any ginger nut biscuits for me to have with my morning coffee . I have instead bought Nairn Oat Ginger biscuits, nice but pricey. Can you get them in your area ?
Do you have difficulty getting your favourite foods ?
A national shortage of ginger nuts - oh, no! Must get down to Aldi pronto to check out the current position. They're my very favourites. On a slightly related tack, a little while ago I fell in love with cappuccino kitkats, then they were discontinued. I still haven't quite recovered....
I was making a honey and ginger cheesecake at the weekend and couldn't find Ginger Nuts (for the base) anywhere. Ended up using digestives - so not quite the taste I wanted.
None in Morrisons this morning, much to DH's annoyance. We're now into Digestives and Rich Tea. He'll be amazed when I tell him there's a whole blog on here about his missing gingers.
I tend to buy Tesco Free From Ginger biscuits, although I don't need gluten free I do find these are very tasty. Other gingers I buy are Borders, probably the best you can get but not so easily available, but was in Tesco this morning and bought 2 packs so maybe Tesco aren't having their's made at the same place as the others.
There seems to have been a time lapse from the point at which the factory was out of action due to the floods and all the stocks already in the stores or in warehouses ran out. A national crises ensues. Keep calm and carry on.
Perhaps I could sell the packet I have to addicts at an extortionate price. Or sell them one by one and make even more money. Grannies in hoodies will be knocking at my front door.
You had to mention Ginger Nuts! Now I'm going to have to bake. Haven't had one for ages but now I'm craving one. I'll look up Delia's recipe as mentioned on an earlier message. DH was just saying last night he had not seen lemon puffs for ages- I don't like them but will tell him to find a Tesco's- thank you.
It's a real shame that the biscuit factory has been flooded and I hope they get everything up and running again quickly. In the meantime I would urge people to make their own ginger biscuits, they're very easy and the smell of warm ginger from the oven while they're cooking is really lovely.
I'm not a ginger nut lover, but Rich Tea Finger biscuits & own brand bourbons have also disappeared because of the flooding. Yes it is an 'inconvenience' but we also have to think of the thousands of pounds it is costing to clean up after the flood damage not just for this factory but also the local tradespeople and residents, some of whom I'm sure are currently unable to work.
We haven't seen any ginger nuts but just found out our favourite pineapple cakes come into the bakery on a Wednesday. Been wondering for ages why the baker is sold out when we go, should have asked.
Does anyone know what happened to empire cakes? They are called Belgian Biscuits elsewhere, two spiced brown flat biscuits with jam in the middle and icing on the top with a cherry?
Another addict here.It started 45 years ago when I was expecting my eldest son. I did like Asdas own make but they have gone they said the warehouse had been flooded. They have put other types on the shelves but I find them too sweet. Aldis are passable. Maybe all addicts should sign a petition. I wonder if David Cameron likes them.
My late father and myself once were invited for an old afternoon tea in Eire where the old chap had some delivious ginger biscuits. So he gave us the receipe, I made use of it but with all the moves since it seems to have vanished. I forgot about them, so thanks for reminding me, I will definitely see what has happened to them.
busylizzy - lemon puffs are sold at tesco and asda. i've got them on my shopping list for this weekend.
as for ginger biscuits - tesco basic ones are the best although i must admit that i haven't shopped for ginger biscuits recently.
i'm currently eating fox's ginger crinkles - not as hard as ginger nuts but equally as delicious especially when dunked in a mug of coffee.
lincoln biscuits - a childhood favourite - have disappeared off the face of the earth. however, after looking on wikipedia, i've found a recipe for lincoln ginger biscuits! seems to "fit the biscuit" [sorry].
I joked weeks ago about a national ginger biscuit shortage and then found out it's true! I did eventually find some in a local Coop but am now very worried about not finding any more. They are my favourite and the only biscuits I buy- or were! Apparently the factory in Cumbria was flooded and production had to stop. Let's hope they reappear soon.
Graymary, the mix is by WRIGHT'S and comes in carrot, toffee and cholate flavours, sometimes Madeira, to which I add lemon to make a drizzle cake. The chocolate is gorgeous and gooey. You can also make muffins etc with the same mix. In a small paper packet about£1.20
it is all down to el nino causing freaky weather, flooded the factory also custard creams factory and they are worried bout coffee plantations being affected causing a shortage and price doubling. i read about this in the summer and stocked up on coffee
