Sainsbury's and Waitrose do not have any ginger nut biscuits for me to have with my morning coffee hmm. I have instead bought Nairn Oat Ginger biscuits, nice but pricey. Can you get them in your area ?

Do you have difficulty getting your favourite foods ?

Not only gingernut biscuits. What happened to H&P breakfast biscuits?

Halsgran2 Tue 23-Feb-16 10:24:33

We get ours every week from Aldi. Have not seen any reduction in supply so far.

My husband is ecstatic as He is able to buy gingernuts at Aldi !!

Amazing what makes people happy !!

Delia has a recipe for the biscuits in her 'Cakes' book. My copy is an old small paperback, now heavily stained! I think she calls them, 'Jean's Gingernuts. I rediscovered it recently after being very disappointed with an expensive packet of ginger biscuits. I'll never go back to buying them again. A doddle to make and absolutely delicious.

Gransnet e mail popped up in my inbox and I was guilty blush . It was me, I demolished a whole pack yesterday (Lidl's ones) Wouldn't have been so greedy if I'd have known the problem I am going to have replacing them. Just goes to show the scale of problems caused by the floods. Bet the factories are built on flood plains as so many industrial areas are these days.

So this is not about hair colouring ?? grin

Angela1961 Tue 23-Feb-16 10:03:21

I live in Cumbria where we had the terrible floods in early December and yes as others have said the factory was badly flooded and ovens / automated lines were affected. I also have some insider info ( not first hand so this is just hearsay ). That they obviously make millions of biscuits and do so other brands. Apparently they are all the same recipe but the only difference is the position of the biscuit in the oven. The Mcvities /premium brands are middle bake and cheaper brands are the outer bake. I'd love to know this for certain !

Yep, overheard an assistant explain to another customer about the floods affecting ginger nuts to the whole country. I presume Carr's water biscuits are made there too, can't get them for love nor money just now.

You could make your own!

janepearce6 Tue 23-Feb-16 09:57:06

Heard about the flooding - but Sainsburys do them in their basic range.

Did you know Phoenjx that dogs have masters and cats have servants ? grin

Nelliemoser Mon 22-Feb-16 23:05:32

Actually NanKate, not a dog owner!

I have the joy of the company of 2 lovely Labs while at work, Bilbo who is 13, and Laylah who is 18 months! A lot of the benefits without the expense and some of the hassle! (Although we should perhaps draw a veil over Bilbo's flatulence problemblush

Although I have been the very happy owner of many dogs and cats over the years, I am currently quite happy with my 2 mogs, and don't think it would be fair to have a dog while still working.

Angharad56 Mon 22-Feb-16 21:59:15

Glad to make your day Shestheone!
On a serious note, the biscuit factory is the main employer in Carslisle and so many are currently laid off. Hopefully they will be back baking ginger goodies very soon.

aggie Mon 22-Feb-16 21:44:27

None in Lidl here today either sad

NanKate Mon 22-Feb-16 20:09:20

Well Phoenix I'm glad you can confirm that my ginger nuts are not available and I must admit your choccy biscuits sound a good alternative.

I'm sure as a dog owner you know chocolate is toxic to dogs. On a similar subject I realise I must gave killed off a few hedgehogs in the past with bread and milk. I think they should be given dog food.

Let's hope the ginger nut factory in Carlisle is soon up and running again.

Nice to find out what has happened ( factory flood.) I can't live without ginger biscuits, had to make do with Sainsburys organic ones which are expensive and wishy washy in the ginger dept.Hopefully they will be back in the shops soon!?

phoenix Mon 22-Feb-16 17:47:06

Do you know, you're right NanKate !

A colleague and I take it in turns to buy biscuits for the office, and usually buy a packet of ginger nuts (Lidl own Towergate brand) for the dogs blush who seem to think that when we have a biscuit, they should too, and I'm damned if we are going to share our deluxe chocolate covered fruit & nut cookies with them!

They've had to make do with malted milk for the past 2 weeks.

felice Mon 22-Feb-16 17:03:17

I got them in M&S on Saturday, very nice too.

Greymary Mon 22-Feb-16 16:52:58

When I did my last online order from Sainsburys a page came up to apologise for them having a shortage of certain biscuits due to severe weather conditions.
Miep any more info on that cake mix please ??

AlieOxon Mon 22-Feb-16 14:58:43

I used to like Lincoln biscuits, but they seem to have departed this life.....

grannylyn65 Mon 22-Feb-16 14:23:56

I saw a prog how they make 'light' mayo,!I will never be buying it again !?

miep Mon 22-Feb-16 14:20:14

I rarely make cake, but I do love the cake mix that Lidl occasionally sells and secretly stockpile the chocolate kind!
