Sainsbury's and Waitrose do not have any ginger nut biscuits for me to have with my morning coffee hmm. I have instead bought Nairn Oat Ginger biscuits, nice but pricey. Can you get them in your area ?

Do you have difficulty getting your favourite foods ?

Good news to you all. The biscuit factory in Carlisle is now back in full production. Ginger nuts will be back pronto! I used to work in Carlisle, and sometimes, depending on wind direction, we caught the smell of the biscuits baking. Yummy.

Alea I want one just like yours. My husband's hair was that colour when we got married - it's white now. Our son has married a girl who has a ginger brother so I'm hoping they might produce a little ginger nut - especially as two of my brothers were also ginger nuts so it runs in both sides of the family. smile

All this chat about ginger biscuits, made me want to cook, but not biscuits, so have just made an eggless ginger cake with lemon water icing.

Aldi used to sell gorgeous stem ginger biscuits at a very good price but they seem to have stopped that now.

I would make my own, very easy and very more-ish!

Borders Chocolate Ginger biscuits are available and are wonderfully ginger. Not much use for dunking though as the chocolate melts into your tea.

Can't get ginger nuts at Tesco or Lidl at the moment but managed to get some from Aldi at the weekend. Unfortunately they are ginger nuts in name only, they are not a patch on the ones I normally buy from Lidl.

M&S had ginger snaps in stock today. People had obviously been buying them up as there were plentiful stocks of every other biscuit except those. I confess to hoarding - I bought two packets, just in case! blush

Deliciously crispy and coconutty!

JackyB Wed 24-Feb-16 11:59:45

Nice biscuits were crispy? I wouldn't know - I always dunked mine!

Judthepud2 Wed 24-Feb-16 11:54:19

Yes M&S have yummy ginger biscuits called 'Dunkers', oblong shape so they fit into a mug of tea. Expensive but ?

The co-op do a nice ginger biscuit - will check it out next time am in.

Welshwife Tue 23-Feb-16 22:22:37

I would like to know what happened to the original type of Nice biscuits - you can sometimes get an own make packet but they are nothing like the original ones really which were larger in surface area and thinner and also a paler colour. The modern ones are not so crispy either.

I haven't tried them but Asda has a make called Hills who do gingernuts. Asda also has lemon puff biscuits

Out here in ginger nut diaspora we have to resort to making our own. So here's my recipe (sorry, forgot about it last night).

Yield approx 24.
Sieve together:
4 oz flour,
1/2 level tsp bicarbonate of soda (this is the most important ingredient)
1-2 level tsps of ground ginger
1 level tsp ground cinnamon
2 level tsps caster sugar

Warm 2 oz butter and 3 oz golden syrup until runny, then pour the liquid in and stir it all together. Roll into small balls, put on a greased baking tray, leaving plenty of room between and bake for 15-20 mins. at fairly hot (375°F or190°C)

Scottishmarge - When in Aldi I always get their ginger biscuits as a friend prefers them to any other brand!
