Top 3 puddings?

Looking forward to a meal out tonight with in laws. We are being taken to an Italian restaurant and as /i am a 'pudding person' I am very much looking forward to coffee gelato for dessert. Tomorrow we have family over and I will make a salted caramel sauce to drizzle over stewed apple and vanilla ice cream.

All this excess got me thinking about my favourite puddings ... could I even begin to choose a top three ? Well rather like choosing fav films - these would have to be the three in the frame just for now ... and in no particular order ...

white chocolate cheesecake with a berry coulis

apple pithivier with salted caramel sauce and cream

the aforementioned coffee gelato.

Are you a pudding person and if so what would you like to see on a menu? smile

I am positively drooling! I adore puddings but these days have to exercise self control or I'd be the size of a housesad Well I have some lovely clothes in size 14 and I want to carry on wearing them.
I could eat any/all of the puddings mentioned. Never heard of gypsy tart -being brought up in the poverty stricken Potteries puddings were a luxury. Only really had them with school dinners which were lovelysmile
having said that we're having a gang of friends round tomorrow, everyone providing something so I'll do a (bought) sponge flan with Creme patissiere and glazed fresh fruit with cream/ice cream to complement a fruit crumble someone else is bringing with custard.

Most cheesecakes, especially the peanut butter one with butterscotch sauce and banana ice cream served in my brother's restaurant.
Banoffee pie
Pancakes with maple syrup and double cream. Oh, I could go on and on.
2 real dislikes - I know you didn't ask- rice pudding, which is so loved out here, and steamed sponges, with the exception of sticky toffee pudding, which I love.

Now I have the urge to make bread and butter pudding too!

Elrel Mon 14-Mar-16 09:01:06

Or zabaglione, or syllabub ...

Elrel Mon 14-Mar-16 09:00:33

Please don't mention creme brûlée, I may need to lie down ...

anne53 Mon 14-Mar-16 08:58:12

Or even Creme brûlée. Not taking up crime just yet.smile

anne53 Mon 14-Mar-16 08:57:02

Crime brûlée if eating out
Syrup sponge and custard or bread and butter pudding if I'm making it.

Zabaglione is made with the yolks of eggs, whipped up with sugar and marsala over hot water. Takes quite a long time. I think the reason restaurants don't serve it is because it can't be prepared in advance. I make it at home and use the whites for meringues.

Apple and blackberry crumble with custard.
Chocolate ice cream.
Fresh fruit salad and clotted cream.

Sherry trifle has been mentioned but it's about the only pudding I really like.
You don't seem to get it in restaurants these days. Quite like Eton mess and key lime pie but, boring that I am, I prefer fresh fruit and that's what we have at home. Easy to make too smile

My fave is the one my family call 'Mum's pud'.

Simple to make and fairly low in calories too.

Simply pile slightly thawed berries, then whip some cream, fold into equal amount of greek yoghourt and pile over.
Some dark brown sugar over the top and leave to dissolve.

Divine. I think it's been called brown velvet.

Me?? I love, love, love making puds! But I don't eat them, sooner have cheese and celery, if anything at all.

I think , in a way, this is better as I love trying out new recipes and always have my own 'taste panel'.

Tonight we've had a roast lamb dinner (and I hate the smell of roast lamb!!) , but I made lemon meringue pie and a coconut tart, with a choice of cream or custard.

I had a cup of coffee! Perfect!!

Love puddings. Favourite...steamed pudding, hot apple pie and ice cream and chocolate trifle

Jalima Sun 13-Mar-16 20:09:55

If I was at the Italian restaurant I would choose tiramisu or panna cotta. Or both.

Jalima Sun 13-Mar-16 20:08:12

Anything cold
Anything hot
Anything made by someone else

(apart from sago and tapioca or coconut)

granjules Sun 13-Mar-16 20:04:27

1. Home made rice pudding with skin on the top.
2. Bread and butter pudding with cream.
3. Trifle (as made by my late mother).
4. Raspberries and cream.

Ruby41 Sun 13-Mar-16 19:55:59

I'm with Phoebes on Zabaglione - my absolute favourite but has to be at home or Italy as, as you say, can't get in restaurants in UK. Sherry Trifle (as made by me only) or creme brulee as long as it's warm - oh dear I'm getting pudding pangs!

sweetcakes Sun 13-Mar-16 19:23:15

All of the above but the ones I really look forward too are

Spotted dick with custard
Treacle tart and cream
Rhubarb crumble and custard/cream/ice cream.

tingaloo Sun 13-Mar-16 18:53:18

Summer Pudding, especially as an alternative to Christmas Pudding after a big Turkey meal with all the trimmings.
Lemon meringue pie
Queen of puddings
Reserve choice: Banoffee pie

Phoebes Sun 13-Mar-16 18:40:49

I love Zabaglione, but I don't think restaurants in this country are allowed to sell it any more because it contains uncooked egg whites. When we visit friends in Belgium, we always take them out for a meal at the restaurant in their village and they do a gigantic and delicious Zabaglione, so I always have one and really enjoy it!

gulligranny Sun 13-Mar-16 18:31:28

I love puds but have to pretend I don't because they add too much to the shortness and roundness that is me. To choose 3 favourites is difficult but if I can cover a multitude by saying

1. Anything with chocolate (especially mousse and choc cheesecake)
2. Rhubarb Crumble and custard
3. Bakewell Tart

But if I had to choose only one thing to have for the rest of my life it would be coffee icecream.

Imperfect27 Sun 13-Mar-16 18:04:03

There is a café local to me that serves gypsy tart. I have made a point of taking visitors there to introduce them to it as a local 'delicacy'. Seems to go down well.

Glad people have appreciated having the recipe.

Alima Sun 13-Mar-16 17:56:57

Yes I grew up in Kent Imp. Some bakers there sell gypsy tart though I do not know what it is like. Used to make my own long ago in the days when I used to bake.
Almost forgot rhubarb crumble and custard. Mum also used to make summer pudding, lovely.

Gaggi3 Sun 13-Mar-16 17:54:32

Yes, Imperfect27, I too am very grateful for the Gypsy tart link. Years ago it was served as part of the regular school dinner menu and I loved it. Lost touch with it since then, and very glad to be reunited.

Madmartha Sun 13-Mar-16 17:23:50

A really lemony tart, summer pud with clotted cream, choc torte for me.
Tbh I'll eat any dessert going smile
