Did you know... (It's about tea and caffeine)

...that caffeine is very water soluble and so, if you want to have a cup of tea at bedtime, the best way is to pour a little boiling water on teabag, wait a second then remove teabag. Then throw that tea away. Start again to make a cup of tea using the same teabag, which will have lost most of its caffeine? And there you have -decaffeinated tea.

That's all very well jingle, but the tea will be horrible. DH sometimes has an economy drive and insists that we use one teabag for two cups. It's dreadful if you have the second cup. As you might have guessed, I have navvies tea!grin

Easier just not to drink tea or coffee at bedtime.

Jalima Sat 03-Sept-16 16:59:29

Or buy decaffeinated?
Easier than trying to explain that to DH if he makes it grin

Did you know that comparing serving to serving, expresso coffee has less caffeine than filter coffee? www.coffeechemistry.com/chemistry/alkaloids/caffeine-content-in-espresso-vs-drip-coffee

Talking about sharing teabags, when DH was working for a certain company, various offices had their own tea group. One of them was organised in the following way: they used one teabag per session and person A would have the teabag for one minute, person B had the same teabag afterwards for two minutes and then person C would have the teabag for as long as they liked. Then next teabreak they changed roles!

Badenkate - why were they so mean with their tea bags? Doesn't sound like a fun place to work, eh? confused

aggie Sat 03-Sept-16 17:37:41

I use leaf tea , and the nicest cup is the first one poured smile

Badenkate Sat 03-Sept-16 17:38:59

They were scientists DanniRae. Having been around them almost all my life, it didn't surprise me in the least!

dramatictessa Sat 03-Sept-16 17:42:44

Bit of a faff, jingls but at least the tea is decaffeinated without using nasty chemicals.

Cherrytree59 Sat 03-Sept-16 17:46:35

grin
This is why I love GN
Lots of scientific facts to pass on
as my own research from GN

Badenkate your DHs' office tea making' would make brilliant sketch. Victoria wood would have loved it !
Or even a David Brent The Office sketch.

Badenkate Sat 03-Sept-16 17:56:48

Good grief Cherrytree, DH had nothing to do with that group. He may be a scientist, but he has his principles wink

Jalima Sat 03-Sept-16 18:18:07

Did he drink coffee Badenkate? grin

I must say I never heard that one .....

Badenkate Sat 03-Sept-16 18:24:44

DH can drink coffee for England. To be honest I can't remember what he did - I do know he took a filter coffee maker in at one time but it was banned grin

SueDonim Sat 03-Sept-16 18:32:17

I like my tea so weak that all I need do is wave a teabag within about two feet of the cup and then it's strong enough. grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sept-16 18:41:08

I, like my grandmother before me, always, when pouring tea from a teapot (usually when in a caf) pour half cups all round first. Then everyone's cuppa ends up the same strength. #perfection

thatbags Sat 03-Sept-16 20:32:45

But what if everyone doesn't want the same strength? I like my tea very weak so, if I'm with people who prefer it stronger, I have the first cup and then they let it brew a bit longer.

thatbags Sat 03-Sept-16 20:34:03

I learned that after I left home cos my mum only makes tea like boot polish.

thatbags Sat 03-Sept-16 20:34:35

Which is why I only drank milk till I left home.

Jalima Sat 03-Sept-16 20:37:57

I like tea fairly strong but when I first went to DH's house his DM used to make tea that coated the sides of the cup.
Strong Builders' Tea wasn't a strong enough description of it

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 03-Sept-16 22:55:53

You can't go wrong with Darjeeling. It doesn't do strong.

NotTooOld Sun 04-Sept-16 18:49:43

Earl Grey anyone? brew

Stansgran Sun 04-Sept-16 19:33:34

I make a large pot of Assam . When it's right remove tea bags and it's perfect for at least four cups/ mugs even. If I use leaf then I have to strain into a fresh pot which is a faff.

grannylyn65 Sun 04-Sept-16 19:51:38

Builders for me grin
