How often do you have dessert?

I was quite shocked to realise that my 5 yr old DGD has it twice a day. She has it with her school dinner and then again with the childminder at tea time. It's only small and sometimes just a mini custard pot or something but even so... She's very active and healthy otherwise but I think that's too much and is conditioning her to expect pudding after every meal. Why do schools offer a pudding after school dinners anyway? Do kids need it? And I'm not against treats by the way, I have a very sweet tooth. But I have dessert occasionally (and love it when I do) not after every meal.

We usually have something sweet after our lunch, yogurt or pudding, although our son will opt for cheese and biscuits every time. A cup of tea and maybe a piece of cake or ice cream sometime during the afternoon, and this is our lot.

3-4 times,a week. Usually a couple of individual jelly pots or mini trifles. They satisfy my need for something sweet but as they are only three or four teaspoons full I figure I'm ok

I feel sick grin

Yuk Wobbly - think I'll join you Pollengran! grin

Wobblybits Thu 15-Sept-16 22:27:54

JessM shock --- a slosh of custard from a box, how can you ? I can manage to eat a whole box to myself, love custard.

Pollengran Thu 15-Sept-16 22:26:57

When did creme mean cream? When did that happen? Give me soup, proper ham bone and lentil soup. If they have run out, I will take the quickly pureed mushroom.

I don't understand cake. I hate the word cake, and "cupcake" makes me want to boak grin.

We have recently changed to full fat milk and yoghurt because evidence seems to show that this type of fat is good for you. Don't know if this is true but it certainly tastes much nicer and doesn't seem to be having any negative effect on my losing weight

Fruit. Sometimes stewed fruit and a slosh of custard from a box.
I think school dinners provide them because a/ they always have but more significantly I think there is some kind of rule or law that a FSM must include a main course and a dessert.
I think it may be buried somewhere in the net but I can't find it.
But I did find this. Cant imagine the number of hours, the number of meetings and the number of civil servants to come up with this:

Pollengran, not keen on sugar and cream I guess smile

I was quite surprised just how many choose fruit and yogurt, would normally have 0% Greek yogurt but we had some creme open. But if we eat out, I do like my high calorie deserts.

As and when I fancy one. Find that when I don't restrict myself, I don't crave things and actually eat less. Strange but works for me.

GillyBob, our crop of figs this year has been our best ever, not only for the quantity, but for the quality, some of the sweetest we have had. I guess it was the rain early on followed by such a hot summer. been picking a dozen or so a day for a couple of months now, and still plenty to come.

Pollengran Thu 15-Sept-16 22:00:02

Bleuw! What is it with cream and sugar? Eew, just eew.

Badenkate Thu 15-Sept-16 21:55:23

We generally have a yoghurt in the evening, often with some fruit. This evening we had strawberries and some blackberries from the garden.

I don't have a sweet tooth so it's not a struggle to pass on the puddings.

DH usually has a hot pudding most days...rhubarb pie and custard, home made rice pudding with sultanas and nutmeg, apple pie and ice cream.

It's just as well I'm not tempted as I don't have his metabolism and would pile on the pounds in no time!

I have pudding every day, it's a pleasant end to a nice supper.

Often fruit based, peaches in white wine, rhubarb and orange compote, Bananas Foster, pears poached in red wine......
But I also like panna cotta, something with choux pastry, or waffles or pancakes.

So many puddings, so little time....

School dinners always encompassed a pudding when I was young and we always had pudding at home. When my boys were young, I gave them pudding every day but my girls have never bothered much. The boys were much more physically active, mucking about playing in the woods and so on. They're mid-30's & early 40's now and still skinny as rakes!

Dh and I rarely have a pudding now and even then it's mostly fruit.

A piece of fruit, at the moment Nectarines, I love them. I try not to have a pudding during the week, occasionally on Sundays and only once when we were away in Cornwall last week. I keep Waitrose Belgian chocolate ice creams in the freezer for my granddaughter (like Magnums) but cheaper, I am able to resist them. I tend to have a yogurt in the morning with a banana but not in the evening too.

GrandmaMoira Thu 15-Sept-16 19:21:01

I sometimes have fruit, yoghurt or ice cream but never a cooked pudding. I buy cheesecake or some other pudding at the weekend fr my sons and grandddaughters. I avoid puddings because I struggle to keep at the weight I want and don't really have a sweet tooth.

Alima Thu 15-Sept-16 19:11:29

During the week I have a yogurt and H has cake and ice cream. Sundays we splash out and have cheesecake or trifle for pud.

Anniebach Thu 15-Sept-16 19:06:24

Must be Ana smile

gettingonabit Thu 15-Sept-16 18:54:13

Twice a day, but within my calorie allowance. I didn't start having dessert until I started watching my weightgrin.

I'm strict though. Only a titchy pudding, or one of those melon containers.

Ana Thu 15-Sept-16 18:44:43

Probably why you and I are so skinny, Annie! grin

Anniebach Thu 15-Sept-16 18:17:32

Never

shandi6570 Thu 15-Sept-16 18:14:50

Yoghurt after lunch for us, afraid that we have got into the habit of puddings after the evening meal too, but try and make it fruit based. At the moment we are enjoying the fruit from the garden so it's apple crumble/pie etc, or strawberries/blackberries and ice cream. Not so good for health, but delicious for the taste buds grin

gillybob Thu 15-Sept-16 18:08:19

I adore fresh figs Wobbly but they never seem to be very nice in this country.

DD has just treat me to a pack of 2 Rachels organic rice puddings with Coconut. Absolutely delicious. I have ate one and hid the other one in case DH finds it when he gets home
