It wouldn't bother me either, I'd just think that they like a lot of salt - everyone has different tastes.
And it has to be properly ground pepper!
A 98 year old I know puts piles of salt on the side of his plate and uses it all, and about 5 spoons of sugar in his tea as did our auntie who died at 99.

spag bol last night and turkey stew tonight for instance. He bought himself a salt and pepper grinder as I only keep table salt and ground white pepper.
