Please has anyone any interesting things to do with mangos (not that!!) I buy them every week but only ever serve them in fresh fruit cocktail which is a bit boring. DH doesn't like cream so not a fool or cheesecake unless its creamless please.

My son makes mango sorbet using frozen mango, much cheaper than fresh (and delicious!).

Somewhere I’ve got a recipe for a chicken and mango salad, which is lovely. IIRC there’s some sort of chilli dressing. The flavours just ‘go’.

I usually make a mango salsa but others have suggested that.
I also make a lovely Eton Mess using mango instead of strawberries.

Meringues, mango chopped up, fresh whipped cream and some mango and passion fruit coulis which I buy in a bottle in Tesco.

Mango sorbet is so lovely, puree the mango, add to sugar syrup, add a few drops of lime juice and freeze. DH likes it with gingerbread or apple strudle as he cant have cream

Thanks, I'll definitely make this

Isn’t it weird, 8 year old thread, revived by spam.

Lately I’ve taken to buying the packs of cut up mangoes in chunks. We just eat them with a fork. Peeling and cutting up properly ripe mangoes is such a messy business - unless you’re on a beach and can rinse yourself off in the sea afterwards!

Having said that, I have a nice recipe for a chicken and mango salad, with IIRC a red chilli dressing,

You got it MissChateline 👍

Fresh and ripe with the juice dripping down as you enjoy the best fresh fruit ever.

Just wash ripe mangos and eat them with the skin - the best roughage you will ever get. I just love mangos as they are --so sorry, I have no recipes to share …

I eat a mango in only one way, gnawing at it next to a running tap as they’re so deliciously juicy.

nanna8 surely prices are affected by the variety, where you are in the season and the shipping costs. They certainly are here in the UK.

The pale yellow ones that are particularly lush are very expensive here.
Apparently Indonesia and Thailand have the cheapest mangoes.

Maybes you might like to read this about Mango prices in the UK?

Mango goes well with basil. I'd make a mango and basil tart.
I haven't made one but eaten them in restaurants. One was served with raspberries which was lovely too.

I bet you get them cheaper than we do,too. We just grow them and ship them out. Same with avocados. I was irritated to see they sell for less than half what we pay in New Zealand. Not fair. Rotten government.

We had an amazing prawn cocktail,at an hotel, with lettuce, avocado, mango and prawns.

This cake is similar to the pineapple cake that my sister in law makes. I haven't tried it, but it sounds delicious.

Could you use whole yogurt (without added cream), eg strained Greek yogurt, to make the icecream?

TriciaF Wed 25-Jan-17 14:29:55

Yes icecream usually contains real cream, but I make it with a nondairy cream and raw eggs. Probably even more unhealthy!

Katek Wed 25-Jan-17 09:09:32

Chopped mango served with coconut yogurt and topped with crushed ginger biscuits makes a v quick and tasty pudding.,

Teetime Wed 25-Jan-17 09:08:57

Thank you for the ideas I forgot to ask for pudding recipes as I don't really like fruit within a savoury meal. Ice cream would be lovely but it contains cream doesn't it? I wonder if there is such a thing as a low sugar sorbet.
