Do you have chips often? If so, how do you make them?
I don't like the smell of deep fried food, so only cook shop-bought chips (Steakhouse) in the oven. But they're not very tasty or crisp. Cut-up pink potatoes oven roasted in olive oil are much nicer.
I have a deep fryer, but can't forget the time the oil went rancid and the smell was awful.

Coeliac disease and gluten intolerance are a big deal if one has the problem as so many do. We have a ggc who is horribly sick to any gluten in her food. Why must wheat flour be in so many foods without reason?

It is great that there is so much more variety of gf food available in the supermarkets these days, although at a premium. But, of course, checking every label on everyday foods can be time-consuming.
As does cooking from scratch.
Although chips are easy!

Undiagnosed it can cause years of ill-health and other problems.

Im definitely a woman (well was the last time I looked) so not sure where that's coming from. I have also done my "research" and gluten is not the big problem here. But its ok if you ignore me Im good with that.

Fad or not, I'm glad it is easier to find gluten-free foods now than it was 5 years ago. Another complication of DD's condition is that she must have a soft diet. The fact that gluten-free pasta is freely available helps greatly.

Its rarely gluten, its the other products that to mention them there would have to be huge rethink, yes doctors are pretty wrong in this.

As jalima suggested then I'll take saak 's posts to Dd's consultant and tell him that a woman 'who knows all about it' says he's wrong.

You know nothing at all about my DD's very complicated issues yet seem to want to dish out your blanket, simplistic diagnoses. Arrogant or what????

mcem it does make life very difficult I know.
Luckily my DD has been a lot better since a fairly recent diagnosis but spent years from babyhood blighted by ill-health and no-one seemed to be able to find out why.

Never said i did understand your DD's issues. I feel for you. I said that gluten is not most peoples problem, wheat is. I also said that "gluten" free products are expensive and something that supermarkets cash in on.

Here's a suggestion saak. It might help Jalima and me and many more. Post a few links to your own published research along with details of your qualifications and clinical experience. Add other useful links (which you needn't summarise as we can read and comprehend) and perhaps we'll listen and maybe even admit you have a point. NOT!

I thought this was supposed to be a thread about chips, not a bitch-in about whether or not gluten-free is a fad. That's a whole other ball game!

And to get back to chips - have none of you got an extractor fan? we maybe have them once a month, parboiled then double fried in the wok, in the absence of a chip pan, and they are fantastic, though I say so myself! I wouldn't touch oven chips with a barge pole.
