My perfect cocktail is the classic Martini shaken not stirred and with a twist not an olive- I shall be mostly making some of these on Election Day being the serious person that I am. What's yours?

Ooh! Definitely a mojito please ?

em123 Thu 01-Jun-17 01:48:09

Sweet tea is a favorite summertime drink and it gets just a little bit better when we add a shot of liquor to the mix.
The cocktails are extremely simple and are best with a freshly brewed, then chilled iced tea.

My favourite cocktail ever was a Sea Breeze (cranberry, grapefruit and vodka)
DS had moved to America, and it was our first visit to him in Virginia after nearly a year. He took us to New York for the weekend and as soon as we got to our hotel in mid-town Manhattan, he and MrA announced that they were off up the Empire State Building.
I was so entranced with New York I announced I was not going anywhere till I had had a cocktail in the hotel bar.
We then went up the Empire State Building and got to the top just as dusk was falling, and stayed there watching the sky turn from pink to dark blue and the city light up. Unforgettable.

Pina colada please.

I wish I knew what was in the cocktail I had at the hotel on Burgh Island. I think it was the barman's own concoction, it was yum !

Mojito or classic dry martini for me.

A barman recently gave me his secret ingredient -- Funkin mixers !!! They are ready mixed, you just add the relevant alcohol and ice -- shake and it's done. A few are available from Waitrose, others online.

I'm not a cocktail fan, but I like a dry martini myself. I had a Singapore sling once at a hotel in Singapore (not the Raffles), but you wouldn't want to drink too many of those!! Phew!

Cosafina Thu 01-Jun-17 11:00:32

A Porn Star every time - vanilla vodka, passion fruit and a champagne chaser on the side grin

Boolya Thu 01-Jun-17 11:07:13

Just have the Singapore Sling and ignore Raffles - overrated place. For me - a top shelf Margherita please, on the rocks. Preferably in Nashville!

pen50 Thu 01-Jun-17 11:08:16

Rossini (like a Bellini but with strawberry instead of peach.) Or a Grasshopper (effectively alcoholic mint chocolate cream.)

EmilyHarburn Thu 01-Jun-17 11:11:54

A properly made Singapore sling which has Benedictine in it.

Lupatria Thu 01-Jun-17 11:13:26

pina colada for me but anything that doesn't have gin in is ok!

Daddima Thu 01-Jun-17 11:22:03

White Lady, ( preferred tipple of Sir Thomas Beecham), or a " Bonnie Lass" made by a Geordie friend. It's vodka, 43 liquor, tropical fruit juice, lemon juice & grenadine.

Mojito, Pina colada, strawberry daiquiri- lovely memories of cocktails on the beach (mainly ice!) in Barbados for my 60th birthday. Can I go again please?

angelab Thu 01-Jun-17 11:40:11

What an excellent post, teetime! My bro has a restaurant with excellent cocktails, I shall go there after work on GE day!

David1968 Thu 01-Jun-17 12:14:43

In Greece I had "a long slow comfortable screw against the wall". Yes, this really is a cocktail. Yummy!

GrammaH Thu 01-Jun-17 12:30:29

Pass me a Cosmopolitan please - yummy!!

Mauriherb Thu 01-Jun-17 12:44:07

Pina colada for me, but I do also love pimms or sangria on a hot day

Kate51 Thu 01-Jun-17 14:10:16

Long island tea☺

Presumably while enjoying your favourite cocktail?grin

brenh34 Thu 01-Jun-17 14:54:22

Mine's a Cosmopolitan every time. However, instead of a dessert I now have an Espresso Martini.

Juggernaut Thu 01-Jun-17 14:55:27

A Jackhammer for me please: Jack Daniels, Amaretto & Ice!

Lewlew Thu 01-Jun-17 14:59:12

The best cocktail is the one you are having where you want to be having it! Here I am just this BH Monday at Alhos de Agua... Algarve before leaving to get the plane home. Heaven with a Brandy Alexander!

The cocktail you had at the Burgh Island wasn't called "Fuzzy Navel" was it?
I think it was peach juice and peach liquor. It was delicious, and it's the only one I ever order.

sarahellenwhitney Thu 01-Jun-17 14:59:45

Singapore Slings' on a distinctly memorable QE11 cruise
around the Fiords.blush
