.....do you warm your plates up before dishing up? I do when people are round but for everyday dinner I don't......my mum and sister warms up the plates every time.

Christinefrance Fri 15-Sep-17 06:45:27

Yes my chef husband always warms the plates before serving. Not salad though smile

Yes if we are entertaining, no if it is just us.

kittylester Fri 15-Sep-17 06:50:03

Anya Fri 15-Sep-17 07:33:02

MawBroon Fri 15-Sep-17 07:42:24

Of course confused

Greyduster Fri 15-Sep-17 08:11:44

Always. Either in the oven if it's on, or in the microwave if it isn't.

cornergran Fri 15-Sep-17 08:13:07

When I remember smile.

annsixty Fri 15-Sep-17 08:27:36

Always, in the top oven when the main oven is on, or in a bowl of very hot water if not.
Surely the food goes cold very quickly if put onto cold plates.

Nannykay Fri 15-Sep-17 08:32:02

I always warm my plates, never really think about it, just something I do, I also warm dishes for soup or if having a hot dessert, not something that happens often

aggie Fri 15-Sep-17 08:44:40

I like my plate warmed , but OH likes a cold plate to cool his food confused

Auntieflo Fri 15-Sep-17 09:04:27

I always warm our plates, as I hate hot food on cold plates.

LadyGracie Fri 15-Sep-17 09:06:09

I always warm plates, I put them in the microwave if the main oven isn't on.

MamaCaz Fri 15-Sep-17 09:48:05

Not always, but usually do it in the microwave when required.

Nanabilly Fri 15-Sep-17 10:04:33

For some reason I warm them in winter but not in summer.

Scribbles Fri 15-Sep-17 10:14:11

Always warm plates for hot food.

sunseeker Fri 15-Sep-17 10:21:13

Always - thought everyone did!

lemongrove Fri 15-Sep-17 11:14:22

No, although a long long time ago we had an oven with a plate warmer sited underneath it which was useful. Now all cookers are mainly integrated with kitchens so don't have that facility.
I can't say that anyone has noticed that plates aren't warmed, as long as the food is piping hot.

TriciaF Fri 15-Sep-17 11:15:42

I don't - though I can remember Mum doing it. I don't think any of our children warm the plates.
Husband doesn't like hot food (for some reason.)

lemongrove Fri 15-Sep-17 11:16:12

If you use china plates, rather than pottery ones, you will find that the hot food warms the plate quickly anyway.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 15-Sep-17 11:21:16

DH warms them but I can't be bothered see the point; lemongrove is right about hot food warming them anyway. We like to watch what happens in a restaurant when the waiter warns diners that the plates are hot. Practically always the reaction is to touch the plate to see, and it always is!

Teetime Fri 15-Sep-17 14:25:10

I hate hot food on cold plates. I pop the plates in the top oven when I turn it on for something like a casserole or a roast then I don't need to put more heat on. Otherwise its the top oven on low for about half an hour. If I forget DH advocates putting them in the microwave or in a bowl of hot water.

grumppa Fri 15-Sep-17 15:07:42

Always.

Baggs Fri 15-Sep-17 15:26:54

When hot food transfers some of its heat to a plate, the food cools before I want it to, so I always warm dinner plates.

Perhaps if one eats fast it doesn't matter about the food cooling.
