Does anyone do this ? I do not like my steak to be either rare or hard to chew so wondered how long to cook it in a foil parcel with onions , mushrooms and peppers and how high a setting. Thanks to M & S meal deals I have steaks to eat to-night. DH loves to fry his but I wondered about doing mine in the oven , thanks in advance .

No good asking me - if you wave it over the pan and then chuck it on the plate that is about how long I like steak of any kind cooked! Overcook it and you kill all the flavour.

Over cooked steak is often hard too. I like my steak, lamb and duck on the underdone side - much nicer texture and flavour.
The length of time in the oven would partly depend on the temp of the oven when you put the meat in. The veg will take a bit of cooking unless you like them crunchy.

There's a YouTube video showing how to do this.
here is the link

The best way to cook steak, imo, is lightly oiled and seasoned with black pepper, placed in a smoking hot dry pan for a minute to 2 minutes each side, according to how you like it, removed to a hot plate and then deglaze the pan with a wineglass of cold water. Instead of water you could use any alcohol of your choice.

Cook your veg in a foil parcel in the oven separately.

My DH likes his rare, I reckon he means raw, bleugh. I have the pan smoking hot too but I only put a little bit of oil on the steak itself and turn it only once. I also take the steak out of the fridge for a bit before cooking so that it’s at room temp. I also let it sit on a wooden breadboard for a couple of minutes before plating itvuo. I add a knob of butter to the pan and cook the mushrooms and onions to go with it. As I use a high heat I add a little bit of oil to the veg to stop the butter burning. He says it’s delivious like that but as I don’t eat steak I couldn’t say. Not sure if cooking the meat in foil would make it taste baked or broiled? What about one of those George Foreman grills, anyone tried them? Would be interested in people’s tjpughts on them. Hope someone that’s a good cook can help, I’m not very good myself ?

I would have thought it would stew it rather than cook it as sirloin steak is meant to be cooked ie seared or grilled. I like mine done more than DH but I oil the steaks, rather than the pan, (a tip from SIL) put into a very hot pan then turn once. I take his out first, then mine then deglaze the pan with red wine.

Steaks should be put on to a warm plate and left to 'rest' for a few minutes before eating, don't eat straight from the pan.

Yes, I've tried the George Foreman grill, they are good but more difficult to clean than a pan. George is sitting in the top cupboard, unloved.

Well, I don't know about 'great cook'
I like it when DS or SIL cook them grin

My Baby George rarely cooks meat. These days he doubles as a sandwich toaster!

We've never been keen on beef steaks grilled or fried, etc, with chips.
We have steak occasionally - I brown it off in some oil in an ovenproof casserole, then fry lots of finely chopped sweet onions in the resulting juice. Return the meat, with some beef stock (from a cube) plus a squeeze of tomato puree, and cook in a medium oven for an hour or so, until the sauce thickens.
I would add mushrooms but husband doesn't like them.

Yes you are right Jalima meat always needs to rest after cooking, Also don't cook meat straight from the fridge, leave at room temperature for a while before cooking. I love my steaks caramelized and well done, my husband hates having to cook it that way.
