Your “go to” comfort food?

I am a keen cook, have even done it professionally, but when I feel poorly (like today) my “go to” is warm toast with peanut butter.
Or tinned tomato soup (Heinz de préférence)
If I have the energy, (which I don’t) my final favourite is thick sliced ham, fried egg and (oven) chips.

When we come home from a holiday my husband craves a hot curry. I crave a cup of tea and two slices of white toast with butter. I also love tomato soup, and cheese sandwiches.

My h loves ham, egg and chips.

A boiled egg with soldiers, Ambrosia rice pudding or banana & custard. I haven't been able to eat anything since Monday as my throat is so sore. Going to try a 'nana milkshake later..

Mine was, and still is porridge. Real comfort food when feeling poorly.

sharonarnott Wed 14-Feb-18 12:00:29

Crisps and usually a lot of them hmm

lindiann Wed 14-Feb-18 11:59:05

If we had a sore throat we were given an oxo cube dissolved with butter with hot water and soaked up bread used to do the trick smile

Saggi Wed 14-Feb-18 11:43:59

Oh ...and if I have a cold ... hot Ribena..love it!!

Saggi Wed 14-Feb-18 11:43:13

Christinefrance Wed 14-Feb-18 11:36:17

I remember being given pobs as well.
Disgusting, I still can't face warm milk.

luzdoh Wed 14-Feb-18 11:19:55

So sorry you are feeling poorly Mawbroonflowers get well soon.
I love toast with butter and good coffee.

When I'm getting over a migraine, though, nothing is more beautiful than cold pure water, preferably Evian.

Professional cook? Aberdeen uni? Is there no end to your talents? I bow in awe! Take care and have a day mollycoddling* yourself. *is that a widely known term? my aunt used to use it for me with migraines, meaning just do what you feel like, be very kind to yourself, cuddle up with a blanket on the sofa by the fire.....

Heinz Tomato Soup with crusty bread (lots of Lurpak)

Cheese on toast with or without beans, depends on my mood

Coffee with 2 sugars (shouldn't have sugar but coffee without doesn't "hit the spot")

Home made soup & crusty bread

Macaroni cheese, preferably home made with leeks & bacon

Good quality dark chocolate, 85% if possible

Off to make a coffee nowgrin

Can’t bear tinned tomato soup, but if I’m off my food then it’s Heinz oxtail for me, there’s usually a tin in the cupboard on standby.

whitewave Wed 14-Feb-18 11:15:29

I have a Lamb ragu recipe with spaghetti. I could eat bucket
loads of it.

Blue45Sapphire Wed 14-Feb-18 11:11:55

Ooh, chip butty with lots of HP or Daddies brown sauce.

Craftycat Wed 14-Feb-18 11:10:09

Fish finger sandwich with white bread.
As someone who cooks everything from scratch it is totally out of character but nothing else works.
Mum used to give them to me if I was ill.

Kittye Wed 14-Feb-18 11:09:22

Seaside ooh forgotten about Farleys rusks. Loved them as a child and when my boys were small we'd all have a bowl of rusks and warm milk. Can you still buy them?

Cherrytree59 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:59:17

CariGransnet DH's comfort food is Toast and Marmite and a cup of Oxo
A sort of double whammy!grin

Add on to previous post large bar of dark chocolate & a,couple of Rennies grin

adaunas Wed 14-Feb-18 10:58:16

Porridge, real or readybrek type. Heinz tomato soup or homemade parsnip. Lucozade if I’m really ill, grapefruit juice if not.

Lindylou51 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:57:59

Oh Citygranny my Mum also gave me Heinz tomato soup when I was poorly. It does bring back memories.

Gillcro Wed 14-Feb-18 10:54:37

My mum always gave me soup with some mashed potato in it. Delicious.

Lindylo Wed 14-Feb-18 10:50:24

Toasted cheese sandwich, the fatter the better.

gulligranny Wed 14-Feb-18 10:47:45

Another vote here for toast and eggs, mine with a big mug of builder's tea. I do like Heinz Tomato Soup but I always add a slug of Worcestershire Sauce to take the sweetness off a bit, and grate in some strong cheddar. With a crusty Tiger roll, comes a close second to the eggs and toast!

blueberry1 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:28:57

It's got to be good old cheese and potato pie or bread and butter pudding.Hmm,I'm getting hungry now...

jools1903 Wed 14-Feb-18 10:23:50

Mine is cheese on toast with baked beans!

henetha Wed 14-Feb-18 10:22:34

I think we must be related, MawBroon. My 3 favourites are the same as yours!
Peanut butter.
Tomato soup.
Ham, egg and chips.
