Your “go to” comfort food?

I am a keen cook, have even done it professionally, but when I feel poorly (like today) my “go to” is warm toast with peanut butter.
Or tinned tomato soup (Heinz de préférence)
If I have the energy, (which I don’t) my final favourite is thick sliced ham, fried egg and (oven) chips.

Oh it's got to be Heinz tomato soup with crusty bread. My mum always gave it to me if i was poorly...50 +years on and still love it.

Depends, as a child I had horrendous migraines, 2 to 3 day events! As I was starting to feel better, then yes, Heinz cream of tomato soup was on the menu, plus Heinz baby food tinned chocolate pudding, than once I was sure I could manage, then it was soft boiled eggs and bread and butter soldiers (not toasted).

These days it could still be boiled eggs, or cauliflower cheese, even Tarka dahl, for a bit of Indian comfort food!

Phoenix I loved Heinz baby chocolate pudding,
I would feed my baby sister one spoonful for her and one for me, she still reminds me! blush

Heinz tomato soup with cheese toasted sandwich.

Banana and a packet or two of Cheddars.

Get a bit twitchy if I haven't got any bananas
Even take one with me when I go out.

Home made chicken broth with plenty of chicken and vegetables and a properly reduced stock; first, last and always.

Fresh bread and thick layers of butter. Every time.

That broth sounds rather nice Greyduster

Mmm! Heinz baby food chocolate pudding! smile, I'd forgotten about that!

Eggs on toast, any time of the day or night. I'd know I was seriously ill if I couldn't face that.

Cheese on toast, it has to be Wensleydale.

Smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich please. Am I allowed a comfort drink too? Large cappuccino with loads of chocolate on top.

MissAdventure Tue 13-Feb-18 22:21:00

Chocolate digestives with a nice milky coffee. Peanut butter on toast.

If I’ve got a cold, hot Ribena, if it’s a tummy thing then lucozade. Can’t bear either of those drinks when I’m well. I’m sure it’s more to do with associating those tastes with tlc as a child than actually liking them.

Mug of strong tea with a drop of milk. Toast and thick cut orange marmalade.

Waitrose steak and kidney pudding. We had one last weekend the day after my carpal tunnel op. It was a cold day. I had one arm swaddled in a gigantic splint and the weather was horrible.

So I wore my track suit (needed because you cannot do trousers up one handed), lit the stove and got the S&K pud out of the freezer and some peas. 5 minutes in the microwave and ready to eat.

Mounds of strong, grated cheddar cheese grilled on thick white, crusty bread.
Followed by a giant bar of Cadburys whole nut.

Bathsheba Wed 14-Feb-18 07:05:35

Thick crusty white bread with lashings of butter. What I wouldn’t give to be able to eat that guilt free!
