Your “go to” comfort food?

I am a keen cook, have even done it professionally, but when I feel poorly (like today) my “go to” is warm toast with peanut butter.
Or tinned tomato soup (Heinz de préférence)
If I have the energy, (which I don’t) my final favourite is thick sliced ham, fried egg and (oven) chips.

Bread, lovely bread. Must be wholemeal and it almost doesn't matter with what. But ideally, cheese and beetroot or cheese and tomato. Yum!

Yes city granny, my mum always gave us Heinz tomato soup after illness!! It's the only tinned soup I like. Prefer my own now.

Definitely soup , but find Heinz tomato a bit sickly, although know loads of people love it.
Favourite is ‘pizza toast’ - Cheese ,tomato and mixed herbs grilled on toast. Sometimes add a bit of pickle as well. Quick and tasty.

Fried egg roll or Mac cheese does it every time.

Another Heinz tomato soup lover here. Chopped up egg in a cup as well; and my dad loved pobs too Kittye.

I'm trying so hard not to do comfort food as I need to lose weight but in my mind's eye I can see a wonderful sight - a plate of buttery, fluffy and salty mashed potatoes with grated cheese and a soft boiled egg all runny on top. Oh yes.

Chicken noodle soup with loads of lemon juice and a bit of chicken on the bone to enrich the stock.
Faggots
Steak and kidney pudding
Baxters French onion soup and Heinz tomato.
Seems a lot of us have similar tastes
I sometimes resort to a pot noodle!

Macaroni cheese and egg pie, two boiled eggs smothered in cheese sauce, covered in mash potato and put in the oven. You can tell I was a child when there was rationing.

Rhubarb crumble and custard. And farleys rusks with hot milk .No wonder I am on a diet !

Remember as a child having boiled egg and bread and butter mashed up in a cup or if really poorly warm milk, bread and sugar ( pobs). Could never stand Heinz tomato soup as a child , far too sweet. I like tomato soup now, but still don't like the Heinz one. Nowadays I'd go for toast with lots of butter and a mug of Ovaltine.

Tomatoes fried in butter on toast - hot cross buns (can buy them in M&S here all year in Spain!!).

Hot buttered toast with marmite. Always

Christinefrance Wed 14-Feb-18 09:05:09

Toast for me too, used to be Lucozade but we can't get that here in France.
My children both say tomato soup is their comfort food and has to be Heinz - none of this home made stuff !

I’ve really tried to think about this, but I don’t have a go-to comfort food. sad

NfkDumpling Wed 14-Feb-18 08:02:05

Salty mashed potatoes with a puddle of butter in the middle and grated melted cheese over the lot.

Hot thick buttered brown toast.

Or just food. Whatever I can lay my hands on!

Heinz tomato soup with bread and butter, preferably a crusty seeded loaf with lashings of butter!!!! If really unwell my mum would give us kids, boiled eggs with bread and butter fingers.

Bathsheba Wed 14-Feb-18 07:05:35

Thick crusty white bread with lashings of butter. What I wouldn’t give to be able to eat that guilt free!

cavewoman Wed 14-Feb-18 06:31:53

Mounds of strong, grated cheddar cheese grilled on thick white, crusty bread.
Followed by a giant bar of Cadburys whole nut.

BBbevan Wed 14-Feb-18 06:24:42

Greek yogurt and blueberries, or porridge with maple syrup and berries

Chocolate icecream
Creamy vegetable soup ( can't stand tomato)
Cheese on toast or toast with peanut butter or peach jam
Faggots and mushy peas
Eggs of any description

Waitrose steak and kidney pudding. We had one last weekend the day after my carpal tunnel op. It was a cold day. I had one arm swaddled in a gigantic splint and the weather was horrible.

So I wore my track suit (needed because you cannot do trousers up one handed), lit the stove and got the S&K pud out of the freezer and some peas. 5 minutes in the microwave and ready to eat.
