Following on from the comfort food thread. Bread was a favourite for many when ill .
What's your favourite bread?
Where's the best crusty bread to be found?
I discovered lidl crusty cobs over Christmas. On a mad dash to Sainsburys extra i stopped at Lidl instead and discovered this crusty treat. My family thought it delicious too.
I'm a suckered for local bakers sourdough as well.

I love tiger bread too, the cob, not the ready sliced as that dries quite quickly. My absolute favourite is my homemade maple and whole-wheat bread. I could eat the entire loaf myself blush.

Aldi Seeded Loaf for day to day but the olive bread from our village bakery on a Saturday morning, bought whilst still warm, is a treat. and their warm potato cakes too if I can get them

For NonnaW, I do this in the breadmaker but there's probably no good reason it wouldn't work by hand.

Put into the machine in this order -
1 tsp easy bake yeast
400g strong white flour
15g unsalted butter
3g table salt
290 ml water (we are in a very hard water area so I always use filtered water which seems to help lighten the mix)

set machine to French + Bake, sit back and wait ....
I often set this to make overnight at weekends so we wake to this lovely light loaf warm for Sunday breakfast.smile

Sainsburys Well Fired Loaf for me - small enough to eat in 24 hrs, fresh, springy white bread with a real crunchy deep brown crust.....real butter....a little pate.....a little marmite...a little good cheddar.....a little toast and marmalade....and it’s gone until the delivery driver brings the next one. ?

Aldi superseeded. Excellent value.

When we were growing up we used to have a crusty cottage loaf delivered with the groceries from the village shop, we had it spread with thick butter & golden syrup!! Gorgeous!

The most delicious and nutritious bread I know is also gluten free and organic. It is made at an artisan bakery in Bristol called Mark's Bakery - I think you can order it and he will post it to you. It doesn't go stale as quickly as ordinary white supermarket bread and is entirely different - it is real food! It freezes well, and I take out a slice at a time and toast it. It is of course multi grain and it keeps you going for a long time. You could find Mark's Bakery or Mark's Bread on line. www.marksbread.co.uk When you eat it, it actually feels healthy as you munch!

Eccleshall has its own bakery. Dave is wonderful and sells delicious brownie.

My favourite everyday bread has to be Kingsmill wholemeal. Trouble is, if I buy it, I eat it too moreish.

After my move 3-4 years ago I have struggled to find a bread that I really enjoy, so I am at a loss for bread but butter there is no doubt (in our house) it has to be Kerrygold.

I talking uncut loaves here.

I loved Lidl till I saw a woman sneeze over the rolls and another's child touching the cakes, not for me now thanks! But I do like a crusty bloomer.

Niobe. I too have had that Mothers Pride bread when staying with friend in Scotland.. I was there last week end and she told me it would be the last time I would be eating it as it was being discontinued (or Mother’s Pride closing). I like some of the Polish bread, it has more substance to it. Ordinary supermarket bread doesn’t agree with me these days. Just as well I am low carbing and have cut out bread...for the most part...friend had got the mother’s pride one in specially for me!

My local baker has wonderful flavoured bread. Think I would recognise it blindfold. I once queried the flour used and was told it was French. Have to confess I always enjoy all the types of bread I try in France and always take the opportunity to bag a baguette when I'm in the 'big city'

GrannyParker Fri 16-Feb-18 11:21:24

Tiger bread is my guilty pleasure.

jeanniemac Fri 16-Feb-18 11:32:23

Tesco Oat and Barley loaf, hit with everyone!!

Craftycat Fri 16-Feb-18 11:34:29

The only thing I ever buy in Morrisons - which is our nearest big shop is their bread. I normally use Sainsburys or Waitrose for normal shop but their bread is not as good.
In winter I make my own though which is nicer still!

Cosafina Fri 16-Feb-18 11:39:45

I love M&S’s whole meal with rye - a lovely nutty flavour

Sulis Fri 16-Feb-18 11:42:45

white bread is perhaps tasty, but heavily processed. The white flour is bleached and then they add chemicals. They take away the bran from the flour and give this good stuff as feed to the animals, and leave us with the dross. I buy Sainsbury's brown organic. Very yummy and good for you! no bleach, no chemicals, and organic brown wholemeal flour to boot!

Sulis Fri 16-Feb-18 11:46:32

ooops, forgot to add that I make my own bread normally with Sainsbury's organic flours - then you know what is in it. Fab straight from the oven with lashings of butter ......,....

missdeke Fri 16-Feb-18 12:12:11

Unfortunately the best bread is only available in Turkey, from local bakers, freshly cooked all day and costing a few pennies. Nowadays I settle for Tesco Corn bread.

madnanna Fri 16-Feb-18 12:15:12

Have to agree Sainsbury's multi seed bread is my favourite. When I buy it I divide the small loaf ,have it sliced and then I divide it up into 2 slices and put rest in freezer ! When I'm tempted ( try to lose some weight on doctors advice) I just take out a packet ,and just leave it for about 30minutes ,and it still as good as when it's fresh from bakery.Husband doesn't care for "healthy bread" so it's my guilty treat !!
