Last weekend when family were here, I bought two packs of Hot Cross buns from M&S, they were delicious.
Yesterday my S did a shop for me at Aldi, included on the lists were more HCbs, he bought "every day essentials".
I toasted one this morning for a quick breakfast, on slicing it just 3 sultanas were visible.
It was not nice!!
An example of you get what you pay for.

We had to do without Hot Cross buns yesterday because I couldn't find any gluten free ones this year. I made my own last Easter but they were not a success. You could have played cricket with them. They would have put up with the sandpaper treatment as well. grin

Sainsbury's wholemeal ones.....yum!

I bought mine in Tesco early yesterday they are delicious, buttered one (don’t like them toasted) later with a cuppa and oh my it was disgusting. Serves me right for not checking the label it was salted caramel and chocolate ?

WHY!!!! ??? A hot cross bun is just that please don’t add things.

Agreed Grannybags. The ones from Sainsbury's were delicious.
I hope they have some reduced next week.

We always get the M&S ones but for teacakes it's Sainsbury's.

Salted caramel and chocolate - utterly disgusting tanith.

Merlotgran I could not find Gluten free Hot X buns this week either! Luckily I bought some and froze them from Sainsbury's a couple of weeks ago. Then yesterday they were on the shelf again at Sainsburys. I liked the ones from Waitrose last year, but none available this year or at Marks whose GF bread is usually best.

I got apple and cinnamon hot cross buns from Lidl, they were delicious.

I found gf ones in M&S merlotgran.

I have just made a gluten free Easter cake which looks like three thin layers of biscuit, falling apart! Apparently I should have put xanthan gum or some other glue in the mix.
grin
The filling tasted nice though.

ps the cakes rose very nicely in the oven then went down again.

There are so many different flavoured hot cross buns available now, savoury and sweet. I like mine to be the traditional ones, if its not broke don't mend it as the saying goes.

I like the M&S mini ones only 100calories of course that is without lashings of butter ?

I just bought a Hot Cross Fruit Loaf in M & S - strange looking but I suppose it will taste nice. DH is a fan of a fruit loaf.

I have to make them as they are not available here! It's easy with a bread maker to mix and prove the dough. Made 2 lots as the 1st batch weren't spicy enough ( they'll still get eaten though) Not very pronounced crosses!!

A few weeks ago M&S had blueberry hot cross buns on offer. I got 2 packs, one for my neighbour. They were good.
I normally prefer 'straight' hcbs with plenty of cinnamon and dried fruit.
It's raining, again but I'd better go to Tesco (nearest shop) and send what's on the shelves!

I thought the M&S gf ones weren't very nice this year and there were none left in Sainsbury's. Just come back from Waitrose and forgot to look! sad

I bought Sainsbury's Taste the Difference traditional ones 3 weeks ago and froze them, reduced to half price, 70p. They were a bit 'doughy' but tasted very good.

Willow500 Sat 31-Mar-18 19:41:42

I love the salted caramel and chocolate ones from Tescos but the nicest ones are Lidl's - full of fruit and very spicy.

Jalima1108 Sat 31-Mar-18 20:03:42

They look very moreish nonnasusie

Oh dear - I bought some and froze them for DD but she wasn't bothered about having one so they are still in the freezer!

I got the Specially Selected ones from Aldi and they were delicious - full of fruit.

Today I will make a bread and butter pudding with stale(ish) Hot Cross Buns smile

I usually spread them with butter and marmalade before adding the single cream/milk and eggs...delicious!
