Broad beans.

Having hated the 'bullets' served at school dinners, this is the first time I have grown or eaten broad beans. I have de-podded them and they vary in size. I think I shall remove the skin from the larger ones, I assume you blanch them and they will come away. Some will get frozen, so would I do this before freezing or when I am about to cook them? How long do they take to cook, and does anyone have any tips or recipes to make them taste nice? Thanking you in anticipation.

I love dwarf french beans and find that, now we no longer have an allotment, they grow very well in pots. I just have to remember to keep sowing a few every week or two.

Happened to see some broad beans at a farm shop fresh picked an hour earlier.
Lightly boiled for 2 minutes that day they were delicious but I doubt they would be so good after freezing.
Have to agree about the amount of waste though - shame I don't keep pigs or chickens. sad

I love broad beans, steamed, in soups, in stir fries and pretty much every way. If you like Greek food, its worth looking at some recipes that use broad beans. I particularly like a casserole with pork and tomatoes with the broad beans added about an hour into a two hour slow cook. delicious.
