Potato Ricer ? The best gadget ever ??

To be honest I love almost everything from Lakeland so I'd better take a look at this one (and spend an hour or two browsing no doubt)

I still don’t know why it’s a ricer my rice is made up of bit s not smooth at all I use an ordinary hand masher or a fork and it all comes out fine I don’t like lumpy potatoes but I don’t like them completely like Complan either

I have a potato ricer, but we rarely use it, as I am also one of those who inherited Grannie's potato masher, and after all smooth mashed potatoes is merely a matter of mashing them thoroughly.

At least I think so, but DH says he can't make mashed potatoes, so he doesn't. I can't make good English pancakes, but he can, Division of labour.

I don’t think anyone has answered that Tuderrose. They are very popular in Australia. They do everything according to my daughter, hers weighs, chops, mixes, steams, bakes, makes soups, roasts chicken, makes cakes and puddings and minds the children ?

I love my potato ricer and I also use it as a juicer for citrus fruits. I cut fruit in half, cut all the peel off, put the fruit in and squeeze. You get every last drop out, perfect.

Iceland frozen sweet potato mash is delicious.

I was just going to ask this very question as I was mashing potatoes last night. Never seem to be able to get lump free. The Lakeland gadget sounds interesting, will look it out. Many thanks 1974cookie and to all for your ideas and suggestions.

I have a ricer but DH says the potato is cold by the time it is all prepared. I used it when needing smooth potato so I could pipe it onto cottage or fish pies as they are going in the oven anyway.

I like smooth mash, my hubby likes lumps in his (just like mother made).

I should be so lucky. My phone behaves for a while and then, when it has me conned, starts playing silly buggers again. Getting a new one next week.

I had a ricer but found the potatoes were almost cold by the time I had 'riced' them all.

I bought one years ago after a friend recommended it. I used it once, thereafter it sat at the back of a drawer. Too small to be practical when making mash for nine people, fiddly to clean too. I have a very solid potato masher that was my grandmothers, it may leave the occasional lump but we quite like it that way. At a restaurant once I had what was described as 'creamed potatoes' (which I took to be a posh way of saying mash), it was horrible. Way too smooth and sloppy and disolving into the shepherds pie beneath it. When our waitress came to ask the customary "Is everything alright for you?" I asked if the chef would like a lesson in how to mash potatoes. She looked afronted and said 'They're not mashed they're riced'......

I’ve had an electric potato masher for 10 years or so.... because of arthritis in hands I find these jobs troublesome, and it is absolutely fantastic and easy to clean as well. It’s just called ‘Masha’...could’ve come from Lakeland !!? Or more than likely Coopers. Can’t think it cost more than £20 and it is always plugged in. Mashes any veg you can think of. Brilliant. I agree that ricers are too small and don’t hold enough . I have mashed 5lb spuds in one go with my masha...wouldn’t be without it.
