Are you stocking up at home in case Brexit means shortages?

How much money wise and amount?

What are you stocking up on?

PECS Sun 27-Jan-19 20:09:52

There was an article in a paper last weekend about how manufacturers are reducing sizes/weight of items but maintaining prices! So we don't think prices are rising!

Lily65 Sun 27-Jan-19 20:14:35

What sort of thing are you buying Gill?

BradfordLass72 Sun 27-Jan-19 20:46:42

Jalima1108 I'll air the bed then - and stock up on toilet rolls for you to send back in care parcels.

grin

GabriellaG54 Bring 'em on!! wine

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Jan-19 22:29:58

Ooh yes, , please BradfordLass!
I'll bring a spare suitcase!

PECS Sun 27-Jan-19 22:37:27

Stand down shoppers... just heard on the news it's OK the government says we will be fine. Pharmacies have been told to have 6 weeks stock so we (Joe Public) do not need to worry. Phew I feel reassured now

Anyone want to buy 32 tins of tomatoes?

Chewbacca Sun 27-Jan-19 22:46:07

Swap you 50/50 for my 12 packs of spaghetti MissA.

MissAdventure Sun 27-Jan-19 22:48:13

That could work! smile
A barter system. Brilliant idea.

PECS Sun 27-Jan-19 23:14:47

anyone want to trade some cous cous? I can offer chick peas?

Jalima1108 Sun 27-Jan-19 23:40:37

Swap for an out-of-date jar of Branston pickle?

MissAdventure Sun 27-Jan-19 23:42:17

Yes, I've got quite a lot of couscous.
I think its because I'm always "going to start healthy eating soon".
Have you anything a bit more naughty thank chickpeas?

MissAdventure Sun 27-Jan-19 23:43:07

Thank = than.

SparklyGrandma Sun 27-Jan-19 23:46:27

MissAdventure can I buy some?

I started this thread thinking it might not start any discussion... and bam, 11 pages later!

MissAdventure Sun 27-Jan-19 23:48:52

Oh yes, you're welcome to some.
I have them because I'm always planning to cook more. blush

SparklyGrandma Sun 27-Jan-19 23:50:41

Thank you MissAdventure...

DH's stock cupboard (if he CBA) would have me humming Cumbawumba,

'He's got a whisky drink, he's got a vodka drink
He's got a lager drink, he's got a cider (home-made) drink'

I converted a small room and various stuff do need to be stored in suitable ways.Having them labelled means I can easily find items for family members,

People are buying water as there a chance the chemicals used purification come from the EU, Delays coming through

Tea ,coffee, breakfast cereals.Including bars of chocolates a good thing, moralewill be low.

The Millenium Bug was real a
and was sorted by
clever people.

Esspee Mon 28-Jan-19 08:40:36

Haven't read the full thread but just enough to make me despair.
Reminds me of the millennium bug nonsense where the media managed to whip up a storm (amongst the gullible) suggesting that the world would grind to a halt as we entered the new century. Planes would drop out of the sky, all our bank and medical records would vanish from computers etc.
What happened?
Do you remember?

PECS Mon 28-Jan-19 08:59:30

Espee The millennium bug had less impact because people had prepared for it! Not in a panic or via 'project fear' but by sensible preventative measures. Always good to act on fact rather than heresay!

Daddima Mon 28-Jan-19 09:59:30

We’ll manage.

muffinthemoo Mon 28-Jan-19 10:11:43

Baby milk, mostly. Tend to keep a good store of stuff anyway.

Also a spare 28 days medicine for me because I can't stop cold turkey.

megan123 Mon 28-Jan-19 10:25:24

There is a document on the Gov website, confirming the contingency plan, which was made in December, regarding medicines, and as PECS has said 6 week stock pile has been recommended and should be in place now.

muffinthemoo Mon 28-Jan-19 10:35:11

Jalima pretty sure I read somewhere a year or two back that toilet rolls have been shrinkflated and indeed have fewer sheets.

PECS Mon 28-Jan-19 10:42:15

My acquaintance ( a mum at the school gate) who works in quite a senior post at the HO in the Brexit dept says these plans have been researched and ready to roll for ages. Powers that be do not want them released until it is certain which, if any plan is announced.

Jalima1108 Mon 28-Jan-19 12:17:17

It's not just me then muffinthemoo - there are only two of us here for most of the time now but I seem to be forever replacing toilet rolls!
We used to get through a lot years ago as DD, when she was little, used wrap up her dolls in toilet paper and make little beds for them out of it too (strange child).
