Frozen peas

I inadvertently ordered quite a large bag of frozen peas with an online grocery order. There are just two of us and it will take forever to get through them. Worse, even small size packs are filled so full that they are v difficult to read fasten after taking out a small amount. Anyone tried quickly decanting into smaller freezer bags. No? Thought probably not. But I hate loose peas rolling round the freezer drawer. Others must have cracked this silly problem, please share. Thanks.

I am a big fan of the plastic clips, use them on all half empty packets in the freezer and out, and when they run out I have a full peg bag of wooden pegs (can't stand plastic ones!)

Hahahaha I'm another fan of the clothes peg too.

Bossofnobody

I totally agree smile
I was very sad to see the removal of this - it always gave me a smile as I drove under it .

You could always make some lovely green pea and ham soup. That would see off quite a few.

Give peas a chance grin

Sorry , had to do it...

Take a rubber glove you wish to discard. Cut the cuff across completely (you can do this two or three times on one cuff). You end up with very strong, wide "rubber bands" which fit well over bags of frozen goods. No cost.

^I eat my peas with honey,
I've done it all my life,
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife^.

Just thought I'd throw that in?.

I have so enjoyed this thread - better and funnier than Saturday night TV!! Seem to remember an advert with a solitary pea being chased all over the place. I, too, am a fan of clothes pegs. DGS came in one day to find one of my slippers stuck together at the toe with a clothes peg. I explained it was to hold the top and sole together till the superglue set - you should have seen his face looking up at Granny.

I have a whole pile of old ice cream boxes, really old 2.5 and 5 ltre, boxes and all vegetables get emptied into them so that they stack neatly in my chest freezer.

I was going to suggest making soup too. Just cover frozen peas with chicken or veggi stock, bring to the boil and liquidise (I use one of those blender sticks). It is really tasty!

I buy the largest pack from Birdseye. I don't like those plastic pegs, I just use a rubber band.
Squeeze all the air out first.

Lovetopaint037 Sat 12-Oct-19 09:38:45

I use plastic pegs as well but often put the whole bag of opened peas into a slightly larger freezer bag which contains the peas and stops them invading the freezer.

Callistemon Sun 18-Aug-19 20:04:47

How many peas do you all buy?
shock

Well I don't need an exact number, obviously grin

I decant into the Asda version of zip lock bags. I keep one particular bag, clearly labelled, for application to painful joints when my RA flares up. This I have used time and again.

I give my grandchildren frozen peas as a "treat" in sunny weather. They are not allowed sweets so do get excited about frozen peas.grin

MissAdventure Sun 18-Aug-19 11:59:47

Oh I love a frozen pea straight from the bag.
Its like eating a sweet!

grandtanteJE65 Sun 18-Aug-19 11:57:57

Make pea soup and get rid of the surplus.

Callistemon Sun 18-Aug-19 11:56:41

I like peas too, fresh, frozen, mushy, but the frozen peas have to be the 'right ones'.

They're quite nice if eaten straight from the packet, still frozen!

EllanVannin Sun 18-Aug-19 11:54:46

Clothes peg for me too. I don't buy small---no good for me when I like large helpings, of everything really hahahaha.

BlueSapphire Sun 18-Aug-19 11:54:05

Well, there's only me at home, but I always buy the largest bag of peas because it works out cheaper. Then I decant them into freezer bags and close them with those bag clips you can get from IKEA, Lakeland or similar. I usually stand the freezer bags inside a bowl, then if you do drop a few they just roll into the bowl and you're not chasing all over the floor for them!

annep1 Sun 18-Aug-19 11:53:14

I know Kittylester. Twas me.

MissAdventure Sun 18-Aug-19 11:43:30

I love peas as well.
All different ones too.
Cooked, uncooked, fresh, frozen, tinned, processed or mushy.
I love 'em all!

kittylester Sun 18-Aug-19 11:43:17
