I love good coffee, use either stove top thingy or cafetière, but I am so fed up with buying umpteen different brands all promising fabulous flavour, depth etc., but delivering nothing.
My all time favourite is Blue Mountain, but can’t get hold of that for love nor money, do you use one that you absolutely love, or even really like?.
My fave instant is Aldi Columbian but their ground stuff notso much, any recommendations would be gratefully accepted, thanks?

Try Pumphreys coffee. They're an independent coffee company who roast their own and have a large range of coffee and beans. They're an absolute institution in the North East ☕?

Waitrose Columbian and Sainsbury's 'Taste the Difference' Columbian produce a coffee that's jut right. They have a really smooth flavour - Espresso or Americano are too strong and bitter. OH has a fancy machine that makes all sorts of exotica but I have a simple filter machine. Several cups get enjoyed with the newspaper some days!

We have always kept our ground coffee in the freezer. Yes you can use it straight away.
My partner's ex was from the US and she always kept the ground coffee in the freezer, so it's a habit of long standing.

Indeed we keep a jar of instant coffee in the fridge too. ☕️

We love Bellarom Italian Blend Roast & Ground Coffee, strength no. 5, from Lidl. Haven't found anything to beat it yet.

I was given a dole gusto machine last Christmas and feel ashamed that it isn't used. I hate the taste of the Nescafe coffee pods that go with it and haven't been able to find a good alternative. Any suggestions welcome!

Whittards sell blue mountain coffee

Just looked on amazon and they have many varieties of Blue Mountain

I got myself a tassimo and I buy Costa coffee pods and that is nice

I spent a few years living in Italy and really got in to coffee, after being an ardent tea drinker.
After trying most on offer, I now stick to Lavazza ( red packet) and buy it in bulk from Amazon. I love it because it’s strong but never bitter.

vickya Sat 28-Sept-19 10:57:54

Lavazza Oro. In a cafetiere or expresso pot on the stove. Asda had an offer on for ages and I had to stop going past that country. No more room in the cupboard.

Good old reliable Nescafe, every time. It can't (IMHO) be beaten.

nannylovesshopping - There have been serious fires in Jamaica, the home of the fabulous Blue Mountain Coffee, and the crops were destroyed - Fires and the unrelenting sun destroyed the rain-fed farms of prized Blue Mountain Coffee crops, vegetable crops and Christmas trees that are grown in the buffer zone of the Blue Mountain National Park. There are draconian restrictions on all water useage in Jamaica, with the meagre supplies of all water only able to be used for human consumption and sanitary use. Severe fines to anyone using water for plant irrigation apparently. This particular Coffee has not been easily available for many years - we loved it also! We did find a similar one called "High Mountain" - but it is stormingly expensive ... £20 to £30 for a measly 100 grams - sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

My personal favourite is PACT Coffee - www.pactcoffee.com/sign-up/welcome?gclid=CjwKCAjwibzsBRAMEiwA1pHZrlrmAGoHQ-s5IRWupzgB15oHmRX_W6buwM9H7h0pF8DnZuh7gmquuBoCKPAQAvD_BwE&voucher=FREEV60KIT. The guy imports the beans direct from small farms. They are roasted and ground just before being sent out to customers.

Especially good if you want to source your coffee via ethical trading standards. I buy a pack each month - they let me know via email when it's being sent out and it usually arrives the following day. It comes in a fairly flat package that easily fits through the letterbox. I particularly love their Decaff - very difficult to tell just by taste alone that it's actually 'decaff'.

olliebeak Sat 28-Sept-19 11:16:49

I should have added that I was bought one of the 'pod machines'. All very good BUT, I'm trying my best to cut down on 'single use plastic' - so using it makes me feel quite guilty sad.

I have two cafetieres - one for a single person and one for a couple. I also have one of the 'Moka' stovetop pots. My PACT coffee is suitable for both of those methods. They do different 'grinds' of coffee - depending on how you want to make your coffee.

GrannyBeek Sat 28-Sept-19 11:18:17

I’m looking for a coffee machine and those with the pods look easiest to use. Can the pods be recycled? I would use lots and I do try to avoid single use plastic.

Rosieroe Sat 28-Sept-19 11:18:43

Lavazza is our favourite.

trendygran Sat 28-Sept-19 11:21:35

I buy Azera Americano for ‘ordinary’ and decaffinated.Have also just bought some Percol coffee bags ,which are good for a quick ‘proper’ coffee. I am fussy about coffee as I don’t like tea.apart from fruit ones.

dragonfly46 Sat 28-Sept-19 11:24:33

We have for years used a Senseo coffee maker and get the paper pods from Amazon. Everyone we know loves our coffee. The machine is Dutch and the Dutch make the best coffee in the world.

LondonGranny Sat 28-Sept-19 11:26:23

Unless they're clear plastic they cannot be recycled. Usually pods are black or dark brown and go to landfill. I worked somewhere that had coffee pods and the sheer amount that went into binbags every week was alarming.

Parsley3 Sat 28-Sept-19 11:30:32

Lavazza for me. I buy it in Costco.

cheneslieges132 Sat 28-Sept-19 11:35:30

jenni123 The "Brown Bear" name is just a name! It is NOT - repeat NOT - Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.

GrannyBeek Sat 28-Sept-19 11:43:44

LondonGranny that’s what I thought. Very worrying. Maybe I’ll stick to the cafetière.

Caro57 Sat 28-Sept-19 12:12:09

DH has Lyons coffee bags. I like Robert Timms 1. But can’t find it in this country. Don’t like it bitter or strong

I used to have a stovetop cafetiere but it was such a b*gger to clean properly. Then I moved over to one of those coffee pots with a plunger thingy you push down until one day hot coffee splurged straight into my face and I had a nasty burn. Now I use filter papers in something that sits on top of the cup. The paper filter & coffee grounds go straight into my food waste bin and are turned into compost along with banana skins etc.
