Hope your mum enjoys them! I've kept cakes for years and they've been fine. Ditto Xmas puds. All the sugar and alcohol preserves them, I think!

Thank you everyone, she will be thrilled, I suspect she would have eaten them anyway, no matter what I thought ?.They do have alcohol in them, but I was more worried about the egg in them going off .

Seriously, if they are good fruit cakes and not mouldy, should be fine.

My Dundee cake only keeps for about a week.

Not mouldy or anything, just eaten.!

Unless there is obvious mold/mould I would not worry. They will be fine.

Bit like wedding cakes really.

If they have been marzipanned and iced, I think they will be OK.
But unwrap them, have a look, a sniff, and if all seems well, enjoy with a good cup of tea.

Hi,goodness knows why but my mum has just told me she has two Christmas cakes stored away, their two years old. They've been kept in an airtight tin, in a bedroom. She's insisting they'll be fine, but I'm not so sure, and I wouldn't eat them anyway, and don't really want her to either.
