We're having roast chicken. Not Xmas for a long time.

We often have pork chops or chicken thighs instead of a joint but still do roast potatoes and tons of veg to give it that Sunday feeling.

Any leftover veg goes into Monday's lunchtime soup.

Same here, we will have shepherds' pie and casseroles on the Sundays before Christmas then the full works on Christmas Day. I'm not sure what we will do on the Sunday immediately after Christmas though.

When I saw the thread title, Phoenix, I thought you'd forgotten what day of the week it was. I was going to help you out.....grin

OK, I get that, phoen. We hardly ever have roasts and, except that it won't be turkey, I haven't decided what we're having on Christmas Day — chicken, lamb, macaroni cheese (I make an awesome macaroni cheese).

Good idea. I love an occasional roast, although I'm veggie. I love a cauliflower and broccoli bake with tasty cheese sauce, stuffing balls, Yorkshires and lots of roast veggies.

Just me and Mr P here too jusnoneed as always, but we do like to make it a bit special.

Will either do scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for brunch ( we eat main meal around 5.30 ish) or Delias smoked fish creams!

Turkey is such good value, and so much you can do with it, (without resorting to the dreaded turkey curry!) Mr P is very keen on my (cheats) turkey and ham pie wink

I don't do a roast dinner very often these days, I used to love roast beef or lamb but it's so expensive these days.

Not going to be doing much at christmas this year as there will be just the two of us. Will get a small turkey to keep OH happy, wouldn't bother myself as not keen on it.

I rarely cook roasts. I prefer casseroles and stews and make these all the time. Sunday I may jazz it up and use venison, salmon, pheasant or similar, but casseroles and stews rule the roost in this household.

Yes, make the Christmas meal a touch more "special" and something to really look forward to!

Have been doing this for a few years now.

seacliff Sat 23-Nov-19 18:51:24

I'm guessing...so you really enjoy your roast at Christmas after a few weeks break?

Bit like when I really savour chocolate after being on a diet for a week!!

Baggs Sat 23-Nov-19 18:46:47

I'm wondering why too.

Namsnanny Sat 23-Nov-19 18:41:56

Why's that then?

To have a cooking rest before the big day?

phoenix Sat 23-Nov-19 18:39:56

The last Sunday roast until Christmas dinner!

For the next few weeks it will be casseroles, hotpots etc.

I may relent at times, and do some roast potatoes to go with the casseroles (casserole & mash can feel like food you don't need teeth to eat!) or perhaps the odd potatoes boulangerie (sp?) but no more roasts grin
