Yesterday I bought a packet of hot cross buns. I buttered one to enjoy with my cup of tea. It was disgusting! No flavour of mixed spice in a soft bun dough but it was oh so sweet with a strange unidentifiable taste. Looked at the packet and a small label said ‘caramel and chocolate chip. To my mind that is not a hot cross bun, a traditional food.
It happened at Christmas with a mince pie that was filled with some inedible extremely sweet goo.
Why meddle with traditional favourites? Yes I know I should read the labels but I am always in a hurry and small print requires glasses, always lost at the bottom of my bag.
Is this behaviour appropriate.
