Have you seen this scheme for people to buy over-stocked food (both meals and ingredients) for as little as £2-£4 for a carrier bagful?
At 6.40 yesterday, Daughter and SiL got a bag of that day's surplus bread and bakery products for £2. Bread, doughnuts, scones, rolls. All fresh, but would have been thrown out.
You install an app on your phone and check what is available in your area, book a bag, and turn up to collect it. Using this app means it isn't thrown into food waste but gets used.

It would have been perfect if there was some fruit instead of the pastries and dessert. But it’s all about not wasting food and in the spirit of that I’m afraid I’m going to have to do the decent thing and eat them ?

Yes, I think you should.
Waste warrior that you are.
