I was given a wheel of Brie earlier on the week and having given some away, I am ploughing on through the rest.

I had some for lunch today on Krisprolls, I really do like those and wondered again as I have before whether other people eat the rind as I do.
I don’t think it is right or wrong so ,if you like Brie, eat or leave?

I eat it. I like the stronger flavour in the rind and the chewy texture.

I always eat the rind. Someone will correct me, but I believe the French eat the rind as they do that of Camembert.

Dh and DD1 love it. Is there much apart from rind really?

The rind is the best bit!

Grandmafrench Sat 03-Oct-20 17:08:26

Yes, we eat the rind. Not seen any left on French plates.

NotAGran55 Sat 03-Oct-20 17:24:42

Aldom Sat 03-Oct-20 17:28:12

Always eat the rind on soft cheese, but never eat the rind on any sort of hard cheese.

Callistemon Sat 03-Oct-20 17:30:37

Yes, apart from the edge bit iyswim.
Don't ask me why.
It's yeast, isn't it? A bit of penicillin.

Oopsminty Sat 03-Oct-20 17:34:10

I've never known anyone not eat the rind!

Smileless2012 Sat 03-Oct-20 17:35:57

Oh dear well that would be me Oopsmintyblush.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sat 03-Oct-20 17:41:10

The rind is the best part of it. I can't really see how you can eat brie, camembert and similar cheeses without the rind anyway.

It's not just soft cheeses with me. I like the rind on cheddar too. I mean real cheddar not the soapy muck you get wrapped in plastic from the supermarket. Also I like chewing on the leathery rind of parmesan but that I know is downright eccentric of me.

Cabbie21 Sat 03-Oct-20 18:10:24

I eat the rind. It is all part of it. So do the French.
DH cuts it off, but I hate to se it wasted.

Welshwife Sat 03-Oct-20 18:22:45

Have you tried wrapping small pieces of Brie in something like filo or flakey pastry and cooking in oven - things such as cranberry is lovely popped inside too - little parcels with a salad make a lovely lunch. I intend to try a sharp marmalade inside next time.
Coummiers and Camembert work well too.

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sat 03-Oct-20 18:24:37

Cabbie21, it wouldn't be wasted if I was around. I'd grab it!

LadyHonoriaDedlock Sat 03-Oct-20 18:25:49

Welshwife: Pieces of brie or camembert never last long enough in my house to get wrapped or put in an oven!

Smileless2012 Sat 03-Oct-20 18:29:37

I'm glad it's not just me Cabbie; Mr. S. likes the rind too.

Chewbacca Sat 03-Oct-20 18:41:11

No no no. Just scoop out the soft cheese in the middle and chuck the thick dried up crusty bit in the bin. Then go out and get a nice bit of Stilton and eat the lot.

Mamardoit Sat 03-Oct-20 18:49:10

Yes eat it all. I buy Cornish and Somerset brie now which is lovely.
