Mine in a topical one .
I have never eaten turkey.

When I was a child we had a capon at Christmas for some reason . I haven’t ever heard of one since ? Did I imagine it ?

From the age of about 18 I stopped eating meat and will now never taste it .

I never fancied muscles, although Dad and my brothers loved them.

My mother used to cook them in an old pan on the open fire, I remember clearly.

Tomato sauce. Just the sight of it turns my stomach!

Greyduster Tue 10-Nov-20 10:38:15

Oh, and sweetbreads!?

Craftycat Tue 10-Nov-20 10:35:57

Tripe & nuts. I can handle salted peanuts but any other nut not a chance.
I think it is being called Hazel. I spent my school days being called Hazelnut!

I cannot believe my joke about a capon being a castrated cockerel has attracted the attention of the trans contingent.
What will the thought police be censoring next?

How strange! Capons are indeed neutered cockerels but it’s now illegal in the UK. They are either chemically castrated using hormones or physically castrated and the process produces a plump bird for the table. They are still produced in mainland Europe.

I would never eat sushi, snails, offal, crab, lobster, shellfish in general really, eels, tripe pork belly.
Not for any reason other than the foods don`t look appetising.

I will try most things once even though it has taken me years to pluck up courage to try them - oysters (love them), snails (ok but don't see the point of eating them) - but will never try frogs legs. Thy just look too much like the real thing to me.

Anchovies because they taste disgusting. Camembert because the smell makes me vomit.

silverlining48 Tue 10-Nov-20 10:25:58

Onions, offal and oysters.

Lollipop1 Tue 10-Nov-20 10:24:53

Anything slimey. Snails, eels, frogs legs, oysters, cockles, yuk and sushi and steak tartare and undercooked bloody meat. Now I feel sick!!!

Happysexagenarian Tue 10-Nov-20 10:15:09

Have never eaten (and never would) snails, eels, oysters, frogs, tripe, raw fish, or grubs or insects of any sort. The thought of it makes me cringe. I don't like garlic either, or tomatoes but I will eat tomato soup if I really have to.

Oh I'm pleased you explained!

I had no idea what on earth the deleted post was about!

I have never eaten eels, just the look of them is enough to put me off.
I have eaten kidney but refuse to eat it ever again. Life is too short to eat offal especially organs that have filtered wee.

Oopsminty Tue 10-Nov-20 10:08:28

I'm another tripe virgin.

I used to go the butchers with my Grandma and see the tripe on display. It intrigued me. I'd gaze at it for ages. It looked so fabulous!

Grandma would never buy it though. She told me I'd not like it so I've never tried it and am unlikely to do so now.

MOnica me too - I have been revolted by milk since being forced to drink from the small bottles, left close to the radiator, in primary school. I am also not quite sure how people can put oysters in their mouths - I won't say what they remind me of as some people like them! Any kind of offal is utterly repulsive.

We did a food tour in Ho Chi Minh, one thing only I could not try was a fermented type of egg, it was a step too far!

Nortsat Tue 10-Nov-20 10:01:48

Brains
Tripe
Jellied eels
Beetroot (tried once but I have a serious aversion to it ... and life’s too short)
Oysters
Snails
Winkles

I feel slightly nauseated now ...

Capons are large chickens. No longer treated with hormone pellet in this country long banned.
Frogs legs and snails are dominated by the garlic butter. Frog legs are like chicken.
Love all fish and crabs, squids my favorite.
Was always told by my parents you can’t say you don’t like it if you’ve never eaten it. Was fortunate try many foods which weren’t available in the UK 50 years ago. So glad I’ve been able to try and enjoy many different foods. Keep an open mind.

Elusivebutterfly Tue 10-Nov-20 09:58:30

I will generally try anything. I tried eel, not jellied, cooked in a terrine in an expensive place. It was the worst thing I have ever tasted and the taste lingered all day.
After that experience, I won't try the two other things I don't like the look of - snails and tripe.

Cauliflower - takes me back to my Grandmothers house when she had dementia. Malt vinegar and Tea- hate the smell.

essjay Tue 10-Nov-20 09:49:16

yes we used to have capon at christmas when i was a child, i used to go the farm with my nan when she went to collect it. i could never eat rabbit, the mere smell of it cooking makes me heave, mum used to do rabbit stew for my dad and i would have to go to a friends house for tea. couldn't eat tripe either, another favourite of my dads. as much as i like onions i cant eat onion rings and in the same vein couldn't eat calamari.

Mwdebbie Tue 10-Nov-20 09:48:29

Brains. Tapioca. Otherwise I eat anything.

hicaz46 Tue 10-Nov-20 09:47:03

I echo those who say they would try anything once. Perhaps not sheep’s eyeballs which I believe used to be a delicacy in Middle East. I love sushi and lobster and winkles, in fact any seafood. Also had snails several times which really just taste of garlic butter.
